What do ya'll guys recommend? I am slowly putting on every accessory I can think of. PRI, Badger, Pac. I would appreciate the recommendations guys. Also What about Vltor v. Magpul stocks? Thanks guys |
| If the gun has a scope, it is great. I put a 1x4 scope on and it was a pain chambering a round quickly. Put a taclatch on and now it is fast and easy. It was never a problem with my holosight. Plus it is a lot of stuff hanging out to the side to grab onto your clothing when your rifle is slung. So if you are running a scope it is a big plus. If not, don't worry about it. |

A solution looking for a problem. If you have low mount optics, then you may need it for immediate action drills. In all my years of carrying iron sighted M16's I have never found the USGI charging handle to be lacking. BTW, M16 + BFA + Blanks = LOTS of immediate action drills. Plus latches that stick out past the body of the handle have a greater chance of getting caught and knocking the bolt out of battery. Not a big deal on the range, but if you run and gun for a living you know how much extra crap is on your body to catch that handle. The only way I would replace the USGI handle is on a suppressed weapon that would benefit from the PRI gas buster. |

LoneWolfUSMC, I used to think that way as well, and I still have little use for most of the tac latches, but the PRI makes a difference without the drawbacks of the others. I run one on my duty and training pigs now. I use a billet carry handle (any other good one would work as well), and I drop in the PRI latch.

| I prefer the BO gen 1 for my ARs that have low optics with oculars that are far to the rear, and the BO gen 2 for other ARs. I use the hell outta my rifles and haven't had any problem with bolts coming out of battery, etc. Of course, I wear body armor most of the time I'm shooting so I don't have a problem with the latches digging into me when the rifle is slung, although I see how that might be a problem for some. |

Where my nose is when shooting prone, the BO gen.2 got in the way. In prone, the latch side of the CH sits inside my nostril. The "bone" in between my booger holes would get blocked by the tac. latch. Plus when you pull back on the CH, the latch would angle back further than the back of the CH. My finger would keep slipping off. I swapped back to the regular one. The PRI latch looks like it'd work though... Maybe it'll be another AR part I buy out of "boredom".

| I use the Badger Gen I exclusively. I've never had it hang up on my gear and it allows fast bolt cycling with my left hand. My trigger hand never has to leave the pistol grip to charge the gun. The edges of the Badger latch is smooth so it tends to slide around gear not hang up on it. |
Getting your kit dialed in is largely a matter of seeing what works for your manipulations or gear. Do you run a vest that might preclude working the charging handle with the thumb and forefinger of your left hand? How do you work the charging handle...do you pinch it, karate chop, or what? Like some other folks have said, try it and see what works. Same goes for the stocks...try them both out. If you're at a class, see what others run and talk with them, try out the fit. Something to think about when selecting gear is to not get too wrapped around the axle on administrative issues or CGS at the risk of being less functional. |
You just drive out the roll pin with a punch or small nail (don't lose the spring!) and remove the latch/spring, hold the new latch and spring in position, and drive the pin back in. It's a 1 min job. |
It took me a bit longer.  But it should have been a 1 minute job. |
