I'm curious why are so many ar's here on the forum outfitted with a phantom flash hider
are they better than an a2 standard flash hider or is it just cool factor??

There are entire threads on these pics, but I just have the pics handy...
... but I must admit the "cool factor" weighs into my choice as well (it's just so danged good-looking ).

They are one of the best flash hiders out there. They also work as a compensator of sorts.

The phantoms are a good price for their effectiveness compared to the vortex which is the best out there IMO
but here's to 5C2 goodness!!!

Unless you need it to bring a 14.5" barrel to legal length, they're unnecessary.
I've fired 11.5" inch guns with the A2 flash hider, and it's more than adequate.

I agree MarkM but I'll give it a shot and see if I like it..besides this build I am making now I am not trying to keep to GI parts I am going all wood furniture and I think the Phantom will add a modern touch to the walnut.

Having tried an A2 flash hider vs. the Phantom I can say that the phantom is considerably more effective with XM193 than an A2. The Phantom was on a 14.5" and the A2 was on a 16". There was a very obvious difference.

FYI fellows:
At Yankee Hill's website right now, they are offering phantoms (5C) at 20 bucks in the factory seconds section. The only thing wrong is their logo is missing. I ordered two this week and got them quickly. Nice.

If you have a SBR the Phantom or Vortex is a MUST. USGI hider sucks for a SBR.

Good Golly! When I shot the 11.5 with A2, I didn't get anything near that big of a flash. Sheesh. That looks like the flash you'd get with no hider at all.
