UPDATE:
Today I received my case foam from 'My Case Builder' and it was perfect! The foam was designed using their online CAD program. I used both the photo-tracing tool (for the carbine) and their library of firearm shapes (for the pistol). The case is a Pelican 1700: Case w/o weapons...

Got some new foam for a pelican 1500. Case is a little big for one gun but it does have plenty of room up top for some more mags and my suppressor, whenever that gets out of jail. Down below I have a little Plano case with a spare battery and some cleaning supplies for the range. |

So I just purchased my first Pelican 1750 to be used as a transport case for my A2 Rifle build & accessories.
I know that technically a 1720 can hold a full size A2, but it just seemed like everything would be too cluttered if I had gone that route. Does anybody have any experience with the 1720 vs. 1750 in this regard? Does the extra few inches in length of the 1750 case make it too awkward or overly heavy vs. the 1720 for everyday transport use? I bought the 1750 over the 1720 mostly because I figured that with the 1750, I could take out the foam & use the hard case along with a soft case to transport an M1A if need be. Hive thoughts & opinions on this please... |

One of my rifles came with a 1770:
The long empty slot on the left is for the can which we're not allowed to own in Kanadastan, the one next to it is for the bolt. Not sure what the two bottom left slots are for, and I have slots for three more magazines, but at $300 a mag, I figured I didn't need more than two for recreational use.

Was thinking about a 1720, but after looking at the pictures in this thread...1750 it is. Thank you.
Edit: On the Pelican 1750 vs. Pelican Storm IM3300...has anyone gone one way or the other and regretted it? I prefer the function of the latches on the 1750 (that's what I've used previously), but I like the looks of the additional latches on the 3300 and the slightly wider case. Why did you go one way or the other? ex. 3300 is two pounds lighter. It appears that the 1750 is the more reasonable of the two (price wise), from looking around online. Case with foam for $215 shipped. Thank you. |

The goal was to get the SAW, M192 tripod, brass catcher, some ammo, and accessories into a single case. My first attempt was with the standard pick-n-pluck foam, gluing layers together with 3M Super 77, then coating with spray on Plasti-Dip. This worked fine for smaller cases, but was a complete failure for a case so large. The standard foam is too soft for so many layers and heavy items. The prototype used 5 cans of Plasti-Dip and because it soaks in, would have taken 20 cans to finish.
The solution was Kaizen foam. It is much stiffer and much easier to cut straight lines. It is perfectly cut to fit the case. Get the lone nose marker if you do this. Be aware, that contrary to every how-to video out there, the 1/8" layers DO NOT peel up nicely. In fact, you won't even be aware there are layers, that is how poor they peel. As I found out, you can 'pick away' at it a bit, then slide a bare razor blade in horizontally for the clean up, and it isn't too bad. As you can see, most of my cuts were all the way thru each layer anyway. So to the pictures: Pelican 1740 
Inside shot. What you can't see is that in the lid, I used the extra 1" thick flat foam, behind the egg-crate foam to make the lid foam thicker. Leave the 1/2" thick piece in the bottom. 
Use the bottom two 2" layers and middle 1" layer to make the fillers for the tripod, ammo, and accessories. This is the bottom of those pieces. I'm showing the bottom so that you can see the undercut (white area) used support the tripod legs.

Brass catcher from Tactical Brass Recovery and 400 rounds in nutsacks. 
SAW sling and the nutsack adapter used when firing from the tripod. 
M192 titanium tripod with T&E. This tripod is tits. 
Here is the bottom layer packed. The height of the foam is 5" and nothing protrudes above that plane except for 1" of the tripod socket. Not shown in the next picture, but I made a round relief cut in the bottom of the top foam layer for it. 
Top foam layer. I cut all the way thru one of the 2" layers, glued that to the last 2" layer and made a few relief cuts for the Knights rail, feed tray, and gas system on the barrel so that all components lay flat. 
Top layer packed. I got about 2" around all parts. The scope is the correct Specter M145 with kill flash. The gun came with, and feeds from a magazine as well. Under the buttstock, I will probably make a very shallow pocket for a single magazine. 
All layers glued together with 3M Super 77 then I placed a sheet of steel on top to keep a tight sandwich while it set up over night. All cuts done by hand with a utility knife. Total time was about 3 hours.

Been looking at this thread for years and figured I should finally contribute.
Pelican IM3100 - haven't customized the foam because I never pack the same items and it seems to be just as secure. 16” barrel, collapseable stock If necessary I can store the two halves separated to save on length this is going to be my travel carbine so saving space is key. |

Pelican Storm iM3100 case. The lower receiver cutout will take the fixed stock as shown, or an expanded collapsible stock. The upper receiver cutout will take a 20" barrel as shown, or a 16". As a "carbine" case, the fully assembled M4gery would fit, but I wanted to use the case with the 20" rifle as well. The picture was taken before the cuts were made for the Glock mag and the suppressor.
I made my own hot wire cutter for the project.
