Any safe is better than none, but I would recommend a fire resistant safe.  Sam's Club sold the Winchester brand for a while, not sure if they still do.  If you have more $ or have any interest I can post a treatise on gunsafes I prepared after I went through the effort to research before I bought several years ago.

If I go over the $400.00 I would have to purchase a scope, or a 7.5" .223 upper, or a O/U 12Ga., etc......I think I could get the wife to overlook the $280.00.......

Sentury sent a safe to my employer for free in hopes that we would become a distributer, I bought the safe from my employer for $50, one of the very few benefits of my job.

Look at the safe as an insurance policy.  It can protect your considerable investment in firearms and other valuables and paperwork (will, insurance policies, deeds, titles, etc.).  Not to mention the safety issue if you have kids.  And I would hate the thought of some crackhead breaking into my home and getting hold of my weapons.  We just had a homeowner shoot a home invader dead nearby in a 'good' part of town.  You might bring these issues up if you have to sell the wife.

This safe is better than no safe every day of the week.  If you want fire resistance at a bargain price, line the inside with sheetrock yourself.  This will help "some".

My local  WalMart carries these.  I also noticed the last time I was in Academy they increased their display of safes.  I think they were Cannons.

I have one of the their fire resistant safes for 14 guns.  It is a good model and I am happy with it.  I want a larger one though as my collection has grown over the past few years.  Get the fire resistant one and you will be happy.  It feels good knowing my weapons are locked up in a safe whenever I leave.
