| I have been using 3pt slings for a while now. Recently someone made a reasonable argument for single point slings. However in my own fumblings with one, I would end up catching my hand on the burnished loop while swiping a hand in front of my face and catching the charging handle. That is what turned me off to single points. Am I missing something? |
| What kind of sling plate was it??. I use the Daniel Defense Burnseed Loop and do not have that problem. the loop is angled down away from the Charging handle. so when you use the thumb and fore finger to operate the CH you don't drag your knuckles across the plate. I love single point slings. simple and uncomplicated. I use to use a 3 point, but no more. |
I've had the same problem. I stick with 3-points. |
|
I use the "CQD" sling mount on my M4. No issues with sweeoing the charging handle. IMHO...the 3 point slings are a "Train Wreck" waiting to happen! Way to many pieces of webbing floating around, and the ones that require activating a QD lever to shoulder mount the weapon...forget about it! Way too complicated in a stressful situation. The single point sling is simple, quick and utilitarian in every way. I use one that has 2 HK type hooks (one on each end), but am considering a version that has just one HK hook on one end, and a QD web buckle on the other end allowing for quick dropping of the weapon if needed. I tried for years to get use to the 3 point "Giles type" slings, and fought them every step of the way. Tack |
| I must be old school....I prefer two point, over the top (of the wpn) slings. I recently found a nice bungee sling that fits the ticket for me. I like the fact that, since the bungee is round (3/4"), it doesn't get hung up on all the tactical "stuff" your wear - it just rolls off/around. I also like the way it snugs up against my body, but the bungee stretches enough to easily and comfortably mount up against the shoulder, and then some.....Just my dos centavos! |

On single points the mount on the weapon makes a big difference as does the type of attachment on the end of the sling. Some receiver mounts have the slot or hole too high which is a problem and then some slings are attached with webbing or a hook design that causes problems. Or a combination of both problems. Done right they shouldn't interfere with anything. |
That would be the problem. Get the DD Car Loop. It is angled down and fixes the issues of the GG&G. C4 www.gandrtactical.com |

Ditto want Grant said. I ran a 3 point on my Issue A2 for a couple of years . just seemed to work better with the lenght and weight. And the GG&G plate is nice, but the loop is to high. I would only use a plate with a downward angled loop. solves the knuckle problem |
|
I'm another single point sling luv'r. I have a Wilderness Sinlge point attached with a GG&G to my duty rifle. I have a CQB Solutions HST Single point attached with the Daniel Defense Loop on my personal rifle. Love them both. Took an Urban Rifle course with the duty rifle and had no problems during the three days and well over a 1000 rnds. |
| I used a tactical tailor urban ops sling while i was in iraq it worked really well with the interceptor vest we had ,also u can detach your weapon from the sling via a quick release buckle without taking off the entire sling. you can also use it for shotguns also.I currently use it on my swat M4. |
|
i had a gg&g sling mount previously and hated the fact that my knuckles would get banged up while charging. shortly after i got the ace socom stock which has the sling loop built in but same problem occured. i have seen other sling loops that are offset that would solve this problem, like grant said the DD route that i took was to use the h&k sling loop and hook . |
I have one on my SPRish 18". Why? For trhe reasons outlined above - all that webbing from a 3 point best fouled in the bipod, scope, bolt release etc., plus it is difficult to go prone in a 3 point. Something like the Specter SOP sling allows the prone to work, but still too many straps dangling. |

Does anyone prefer the HK snap hooks/plates? Like the ones sold by Adrenaline Arms?: ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=7&f=25&t=168249 They appear like they won't get in the way of the CH. |
I run the TROY and BFG slings with the HK clips. I prefer them to all other mounting options. If you run a standard sling (like the CQB Solutions MOUT) get the DD car loop. It is angled down so that it doesn't get in the way of your CH. C4 www.gandrtactical.com |
What about a HK snap hook and plate adaptor with a Wilderness sling? |
I have never used the Wildernes sling, but hear they are very good. C4 |
I have a Wilderness sling, and like it okay, but the nylon material is VERY stiff and can become uncomfortable rather quickly, and it also does not have much "give", so transitions are a bit more complicated. |
Roger. About the best sling (material wise) I have found is the BFG slings (especially their CB color). C4 |
| Basically, I am wondering why a sling of the Wilderness design would not work well with a HK snap hook? It could be a CQB/Spectre or any other basic single point of similar design. Is there something that precludes these designs from working well with a snap hook? |
Nope...this option is available with the Blue Force Gear and GRSC (?) single point slings (from what I have seen), and I am sure some others. I do wish Specter would make theirs available with an HK snap option. In the next month or so I am either going to order up the BFG SOC rig or try one of the Daniel Defense off-set sling loops, because I am getting tired of having my sling get in the way of the charging handle. |
The only issue with using a Wilderness or similar sinlge point sling with an HK snap hook is that all of the snap hooks I've seen are meant for 1" webbing and Wilderness uses a thick, stiff 1.25" webbing that won't fit through the snap hook. If you can find a wider snap hook then it'd be perfect. The MOUT sling from Spector/CQB solutions uses a thinner piece of webbing on the end so it will fit the snap hook okay but the snap hook plus the fastex buckle will allow the weapon to hang very low and swing more. The other single point from CQB Solutions might work with a snap hook The sling that Troy makes has the snap hook on it already. I received a BFG contractor pack from Grant last week and it is awesome. One of the many, many ways it can be set up is as a single point with a snap hook. |
| Northeast Tactical makes a single point sling, using 1 1/2 inch webbing, and attaches with a snap hook similiar to the H&K. We make them in black, tan, and olive drab. |
