just bought a 120 littlle while ago. i haven't had much time to use it on out in great outdoors yet, but so far it's pretty cool. maps run from $80.00-120.00 still looking to purchase either the topo or streets.
i do like the feature for tracking others friends in the frms freq. and the voice scrambler. just a really neat combo package. i still have my lensatic compass for backup. you can find decent deals on e-bay.
let ya know more later.

I am a Fireman.  We use them for Search and Rescue in Wildland areas and greenbelts around town.  Nice because you can find a patient and sent your wpoint to everyone else.  Then they can home in on you with all the gear.

I have a set of 120. Nice units, went to Pismo beach last weekend, they were great for us atving on the dunes, we could see were the other ones was. The new 130 are nice as well, they come with electronic compass and altimeter as well as 7 NOAA weather channels. Their screens are a little smaller than other units. Bottom line in backcountry hiking-> GOOD BACKUP FOR A MAP AND COMPASS, don't use it as your primary nav. I normally turn it on every hour or at a point of interest and transfer the point to my topo, that way if anything happens to it I have a hard copy of my route.

We used them for internal team communication in my previous duty assignment with the army.  The GPS receivers didn't seem to be as sensitive as some other dedicated GPS units from Garmin (in some terrain we would have trouble acquiring 3 birds, but we are in the middle of the Pacific).  However, as an all in one tool they do all things well enough.  We had the 120 models, but I like the extra memory and compass in the new 130's.  YMMV.
