what is the best bipod for a post-ban carbine (16")?

The advice you get is going to be reletive the information you provide about how you intend to use it.

At any rate, your options are basically the Versa-Pod and the assorted models of Harris bipod. GG&G has a new one coming out but it looks pricey.

I use a 6-9" Harris that I picked up used from a gun show for $25. I have 3 Harris bipods and they all work well.

Ditto on the Harris. I have on on my 16" carbine that I use all the time to great effect.

Ditto on the "How you plan to use it..."

I have a 6-9 Harris on my ZM and it is nice. I like the spring tension retraction & flip down leg feature and the spring loaded extendable legs.

I got a Versa-Pod and it is really nice, albeit a bit on the heavy side. Great for RANGE shooting or that sort.

I bought one of those CHEAP-O Chinese jobs, and it isn't worth the $20 I paid! Stay away!
