I am putting together my first AR. In all likely-hood, it will be my only AR. More of a range toy and something to plink with. It will be a 16", 5.56 and I am looking for a budget knockoff ACOG to mess around with. I see some around $50-$100 on amazon, and honestly that is the price range I want to stay in.

I like the idea of the fiber optics for daytime use. I dont know how much I will be shooting in low light, but I also like the idea of tritrium or at least a battery for low light use.

the question is, is there an ACOG with fiber optics AND either tritrium OR a battery that is under $100?

No. ACOG is a line of optics by Trijicon.

If you just mean a fixed magnification scope, Primary Arms would be your best bet. I believe they have a 3x on sale for $199. It's an etched reticle that illuminates with battery. No fiber optic or tritium.

Get a primary arms or Vortex 3x prism.

Anything less and your getting airsoft junk.

Buy once cry once. There’s no such thing as a budget ACOG; that would defeat the purpose of being an ACOG. It’s a quality, durable optic. You can get used TA01’s for a very reasonable price. There is a reason they still charge so much for an optic that’s so old.

No they dont make anything close to an ACOG for 100 bucks , your best bet is primary arms black friday sale look at there 1x6 optics or the romeo 5 from sig

Probably belongs in the optics forum.

But get a PA.

Burris 336 or PA 3x fixed are decent budget options.

I wouldn't mess with any of the Sub $100 acog style options, you'll just end up having to replace them.

This, $200-250 will get you some very tough optics. Zero complaints over my PA 4x prism other than it's heavy. Plenty of torture test on the PA and it's taken all of them like a charm.

Just IMO, ACOGs are awesome but not $1000 awesome. There's no reason they should still be $1000 coming into 2020 since they've remained basically unchanged since 1987 other than adding illuminated reticles
No matter how important it is, it can be taken WAY too fucking seriously.

Legit ACOGs can be had for 8 bills new.

A knockoff sold for a hundo will be a turd.

A "knockoff" just looks like an acog, sorta.

They won't give you any idea what the real deal is like.

There's no avoiding $ in the optics world.

You can go cheaper, like PA, or some other options that are more budget friendly, but you arent going to avoid $300+ prices for those, and you arent going to avoid acog prices for acog performance.

Wow. Topic moved while I was typing. That was almost quite frustrating. Luckily I could hit the back button and my comment was still in the text box.

You can get "budget" versions of aimpoint red dots that do basically the same thing as aimpoints for a lot less. ACOGs are different though.
The things that make them great are the exceptional glass, wide FOV (on the 4x), light weight, and durability. The PA/Burris prism optics are going to give you acceptable, but darker glass, not as much FOV, weight increase, and lower durability. Not to mention the fact that they don't have fiber optics or tritium.

There are airsoft copies that are typically unmagnified 1x red dots that look like ACOGs but use plastic lenses and won't keep zero with any actual use on real firearms. If they are magnified at the same price point, then you know something had to give somewhere else. It's really just not ideal for anything you'd want to do with an AR other than admire the way it looks with a "basically an acog" on top.

I will say that I might be one of the less strict adherents here to the "only buy top tier quality" motto. I have an airsoft IR DBAL that is full power, but inexpensive, but I've not had issues with it holding zero, etc. I also prefer holosun 407c/507c to trijicon RMRs. I have several PA and holosun red dots. However, I have tried and sold the PA prism scopes (acog knockoffs). They just didn't do what I wanted them to do (be an acog). For me, one of the big things was the weight. They are much heavier than ACOGs. No thanks.

I learned the hard way to just spend the money once instead of buying crappy stuff and then still ending up saving for the one I wanted initially. When I was starting off with guns, I cheaped out on optics a lot because I couldn't justify spending so much on the optic... i'd rather have more guns. Of course those guns were crappy too, like mosin nagants and knockoff 1911s, etc. Stuff never really worked right, and I was always trying to work around my crappy gear. Optics wouldn't stay zeroed. Batteries would always be dead. Guns would jam or have ejection problems or the sights would be way off, etc. Everything was HEAVY.

These days, I enjoy shooting more because my gear helps me instead of fights me, and the optics I use, even if they aren't always top tier, are good enough to do what they are supposed to. I'd be better off if I hadn't wasted all that time and money on garbage.

I will say that if you want an ACOG, there is no substitute for an ACOG that will give you the same experience/set of features. Everything else is a compromise. Even LPVOs require give and take. I never use the magnification settings between the top and bottom, so a red dot piggybacked on top or offset of an ACOG do what I want at a lighter weight in most cases.

The Burris/PA/Vortex prism optics are all very similar and perform similarly to an ACOG.  They aren’t ACOG tough though.

Yay!!  ChiCom junk on your AR!

OP, don't. Just dont.

Save up a few bucks and get something decent as some of the other posters suggested already.

Just...going to add in my two cents....

Primary Arms, Vortex or Burris Prism Optics.

Can be found on sales $200-$250-$300.   A bit more but solid optics that wont let you down.

Like everyone else said...

Primary Arms is good to go. Heavier than an actual Trijicon, but durable as hell and clear enough.

I have an ACOG & love it.  If I'd not had the opportunity to mow lawns & turn in pop bottles to have it...
I'd get a PA 3X prism, learn the BDC with my load, and drive on.

You might want to keep an eye on the new Swampfox offerings.  Time will tell, but it definitely looks like it's worth keeping an eye on.  Check out this pic vs a PA 2.5x :  https://www.ar15.com/forums/AR-15/SwampFox-Optics/18-737086/?page=13#i7990864

Definitely agree. Only caveat is to get some Loctite so mount screws don't work loose.
The $100 and less options do not seem to hold up - for $100 optics, your good options are pretty much just red dots and irons from what I've seen. Go up $50 or so (plus a little more for mount) and you can get decent tube scopes - Bushnell AR Optics 1-4 seems pretty good, Vortex Crossfire is in that range, quite a few other name brands as well that are actual decent quality optics which won't just fall to pieces on the first mag.
