Just sharing my experience.
I was packing all of my guns for a range trip tomorrow. I pack my AR-9 and the Vortex Spitfire AR comes loose from it's mount. I take a look at it and the 4 screws that hold it to it's mount are all loose. I figure that they were just not torqued correctly form the factory and I was dogging myself because I should have loctited them. They do have factory loctite, but not good enough. Upon loctiting all 4 screws and trying to screw them on, none of them will tighten. ALL 4 thread holes are stripped. From just shooting. I get it, it's an AR-9 and has a lot of recoil. But my AR-9 has the heaviest buffer/bolt money can buy and the overall rifle is heavy. On top of that, there are many blowback guns that kick more than my AR-9 and this should not have happened I have another Spitfire AR on a .22 and I just can trust these anymore. I'd want something that can take recoil and bumps/drops if needed. I go with these prism scopes over red dots because I have an Astigmatism and my eyes suck. |

I really liked it for my crappy eyes. I might go to Holosun and Mbus as an alternative.. |

It actually sounds like the sight wasn't made correctly and the holes weren't tapped right. Please give us a call and talk to us. The optic definitely should hold up to that recoil and more. We have lots of these out there and this is not a common occurrence. We will get you taken care of and make sure it gets replaced with a sight that will stand up to the recoil. Give Vortex a chance. They will make it right. Just remember, though, it is made at a price point and is Chinese. If you need duty grade dependability, you may have to step up a level or two. I understand your concerns about astigmatism. I have it too. It is mostly corrected with glasses.
One RDS I've found very useful for me, even though it is not a prism style is Leupold's mini-reflex, DeltaPoint Pro with 7.5 MOA triangle. The big 7.5 size red dot seems less affected by the tendency of astigmatism to turn small dots into spiders or multiple images. The big triangle is quick on target, and the tip of the triangle still makes a fine aiming point "on out there". If Vortex's replacement holds up, you are good to go. If not, then consider something with a much larger dot. Try out some in your local gun shop or sporting goods store. |
| In for more info, I've been really happy with my collection of vortex spitfires (multiple, some of both AR and original 1x). I do remember reading somewhere to avoid over-torqueing the mounts, as you could strip the aluminum, but have never experienced anything close to that with any of mine. As said a few times in here, it is their customer service/warranty that keeps me confident in them. Heres hoping you have a fluke and I continue to get thousands of rounds out of mine. |

I really love the 1x prism. I love that with my bad vision, I can still look through it clearly once I adjust it to my eye. I already have a case open, I'll mention the one piece body. | Hmmm...my Vortex AR prism 1x on my 3 gun rifle did the same thing (mount came loose) a while back and I thought it was just lack of loc tite in the threads so I re did the loc tite and torqued in place. I lost faith in it so I pulled out the old Leupold Prismatic and put the Vortex on a practice gun. It is now sitting on my Kriss Vector carbine. I will need to pay attention to the mounting interface. Thanks for posting this info OP! |
