My favorite is the Vortex diamondback 4x12 bdc.  I picked it up at Academy on sale for $169,  mounted on 20" RRA govt with Nikon one piece mount.  Shoots great.

I put a Vortex Diamondback 4-12X40 AO with Dead Hold BDC reticle on my 16" Faxon 6.5 Grendel build.  This is an older model with the adjustable objective on the objective and not the side.  I found mine on Amazon for under $200 with free shipping.   The only negative criticism is the cross hair is a little thicker than my Vortex Viper mil dot.  The Diamondback is a pretty good all around scope.  I even mounted my Diamondback in a Warne 20 MOA 1" mount I got off Amazon for less than $100.  The 6.5 Grendel with 20" barrel will shoot past 1000 yards but your a scope will  run out of adjustment around 800 yards unless your at high elevation.

I normally shoot at 450' ASL and my 16" 6.5 Grendel are supersonic past 1000 yards.   I have access to 1000 yards so I decided to go to the 20 MOA mount.

To shoot from 300 to 600 accurately on that budget limit presents some challenges, but it can be done.  You may have to compromise glass quality to get accurate repeatable turrets and a usable bdc or mil dot ranging and hold over reticle.

The Nikon P-223 3-9x40 might be a good choice with its .223 specific reticle with holdovers out to 600.  Nikon has holdover software that is free to help tweak you holdovers to specific ammo ballistics. Usually priced at or just under $199.

But, if possible hold out for the Weaver Grand Slam Tactical 3-10x40mm.  It is a Midway USA exclusive with Weaver.  Its out of stock right now.  They frequently put it on sale for $299, from its non-sale price of $399.

It is the best budget tactical scope on the planet.  Not only is it a true mil/mil tactical scope with accurate, repeatable .1 mil per click turrets with matching mil dot reticle, but it has really good true Japanese (not Chinese or Philippine) glass and construction.  Amazing combination of features. and astounding performance at its price point.

Its only limitation, from my perspective, is that its 1"main tube limits elevation to about 750 yards or so.  You would need a 20 MOA mount to reach 1,000.  But, it would be great for the stated 300-600 yard distances.

I'm an optics junkie and have a lot of glass.  Some of it almost ten times more costly, some of it more budget friendly, a lot of my scopes are in the $500-$800 range.  Optically and mechanically, the Weaver GST compares with scopes costing at least 50%-$75% higher than its price.  It way out performs its sale price.

Mine is on a 1,000 yard capable Sako bolt gun in 6mm, in a 20 MOA slope mount.  Yes, it is that good.

Add 100.00 and get a 10X Super Sniper mil/mil. It's rated for 50 BMG, excellent glass, 30mm tube and fielded by our military snipers.
