I have one that has been sitting in a box for years now b/c the damn thing uses power when it's off in the safe & I got tired of changing batteries. Well, I came across it today. I went to put batteries in it and some little rubber pieces fell out of the battery compartment... I think they were there to manage recoil on the batteries. I called L3 / EOtech today and they are sending out replacement parts for free that they said will fix the problems. I thought that was rather kind of them since it's branded Bushnell and the thing was made in 2008.
I *really* like the EOtech reticle b/c it is nice and crisp despite my astigmatism. I haven't seen any delamination and idk if it experiences thermal shift. I would love to put it on my HD rifle, but I don't think I can trust the site given the issues that have come to light on EOtech products. So, it's being relegated to recreational use only. |

Don't feel bad I still own three E O Tech sights, a 511 and two 512's. The N batteries don't last that long but I usually get 6 months and for the cost of N batteries it's a non issue for me. I also carry spare N batteries. The 511 is on an AR-15 dedicated to 22 LR. I run Lithium batteries in my 512's and never had an issue with either of them. My Daughter is a LEO and I gave her a 512 several years ago to use on her duty rifle, it has been gtg (lithium batteries).
My Son in Law is a LEO and uses an old Bushnell/E3 branded holographic sight on his duty AR-15. His patrol Explorer got hit on the shoulder during a snow storm. The impact knocked the zero off on the RDS but it rezeroed but the impact also totaled the Explorer. I carried a 512 on patrol for at least 6 years on my AR-15 and never lost zero. I always used Lithium batteries but never have had any issues. I guess I just got lucky. |

I know some hear won't ever trust them again, but I still wonder what the official word is. Also, I hope your son-in-law is okay. I was riding in a small coupe 12 years ago when a lady in a van ran a red light and smashed into the driver side door. Now I have chronic pain, and likely will for the rest of my life. |

Thermal shift is not fixed and won't be fixed without a major redesign. Even then it will still exist; Trijicons and Aimpoints have thermal shift as well, albeit less (although only Trijicon is honest and admits it). It's just a factor of how a projected reticle works when you have expanding and contracting metal involved. That being said, I've started severel cold Texas mornings shooting and continued shooting into hot afternoons on the same day a good few times now. I'm talking starting at 40 degrees and ending up around 70-something. If there's been shift on my 558, it hasn't been enough to notice. YMMV. I'm sure you'll have problems if you start in Antarctica and then fly to Panama without rezeroing. For the 99.99999% of the rest of us who only do that in fantasy land online, it's a non-issue. |

Eotech is junk. I don't care what the fanboys say. There is simply tons of evidence to confirm that. The only retort I hear is "the cool guys" use them to shoot terrorist in the face. Well, there has been a response in every thread detailing why that doesn't mean shit as far as reliability or even speed goes. Get a Holosun. The reticle is the same but even more crisp and quite frankly, at this point, I'd trust the Holosun more. And it cost way less. Not to mention the Huey from Vortex is coming. PA has an ACSS version. Simply no reason to overspend on a "military grade" Eotech that's actually airsoft grade. I'd hesitate to even call it that. Some of those airsoft guys use their gear way more than a lot of guys with "real" gear. What's even more sad is typically, when I make a post like this I assume it's understood I'm engaging in a little bit of hyperbole. With Eotech, not so much. Mountains and mountains and mountains of factual evidence from civi's to grunts vs a couple of guys favorable opinions of them. |

They've said it's been fixed before. Guys send in their broken units, get them back fixed, and the same thing happens. The only thing from That division of Eotech that doesn't shift is their willingness to lie. And if they continue to think they've fixed it, and obviously haven't, they are incompetent. Either way it's a no go. |

This isn't GD, and you don't know what you're talking about. See this thread: Battlefield Vegas Optics Report Important things to note: 1. EOTechs outlasted cheap Chinese junk by an order of magnitude, contrary to what you're claiming 2. They survived being chucked into a bin with a bunch of other weapons and dropped to the point of their housings being bent 3. They went down before the Aimpoints and Trijicons did, but Battlefield Vegas puts more rounds downrange through their weapons regularly than you'll put through yours in a lifetime of use |

I know you said this has been answered before but I haven't heard the answer. Can you explain why SOCOM uses them? An organization of tens of thousands of experianced warfighters being written off as "a couple favorable opinions"? I personally use an EXPS3 on my weapon and have had nothing but a positive experience with it. |
