I'm trying to decide between getting a Primary Arms 1-6x or PA 5x Prism.

The rifle is going to be used primarily for clays and small mammals within 200 yards, but I'd like to be able to reach out to 500 for hits but not groups.  I know either one will be capable as I've shot KD ranges to 500 with both irons and an ACOG.

I haven't shot any 3-gun type yet but I'd like to give it a try sometime.  For quick shots close in would I be better off with a 5x fixed and either an offset RDS or shooting both eyes open, or a variable that I can drop down to 1x?  Otherwise the 1-6 will be living at 6x.

Thanks in advance.

I think you'd be quicker with an offset RDS. It's quicker to rotate the gun than to remove a hand and crank a lever over.

If you're thinking about shooting 3-gun, you should get the PA 1-6x. You'll shoot both eyes open at 1X for close targets and crank up to 6X for 200Y+.
