Alright, I've got a two part question and looking for some advice.

Right now I'm working with the basics on my DDM4 v11, have been for about a year, Magpul flip up sights. I'd like to keep the flip up (good idea to keep the back-up irons). However, I'm ready for a scope.

What is the best way to mount the scope AND keep the back-up functional?

Next, I might be a dreamer but I am looking for an awesome all around scope. It will mostly be used shooting short to mid range but occasionally trying to reach out to some longer ranges. My AR is used mostly for range shooting but maybe a little hunting. Although I have not shot three gun, it is something that interests me.

With all of that, I'm looking for something versatile costing no more than $400-$500.

Do you have a budget that you need to stick to?

Yeah, I'd prefer to go 4-500, maybe a little more.

ADM Scount Mount, Vortex Strike Eagle or PA 1-6x if you're just wanting to hit at further stances, but not shoot for groups.

Same mount and any quality 3-9x or 3-10x for groups.

Used Trijicon TR24 off the EE can be found for around $500 and would suit your needs nicely.

This daylight bright BDC reticle can be had for around $500 just add another 70 or so for a decent scope mount.

If you want to use the folded rear backup, you need to QD mount the scope and remove it.

Alternatively, you can 45 degree offset mount rear and front sights, fixed or folding and rotate the rifle with your wrist without miving your head from the buttstock.

If you don't need illumination in the scope, a midpowered MRAD based scope is a good all around performer within your budget.  The Weaver Grand Slam Tactical 3-10x40mm comes to mind.  Very nice Japanese glass and construction with .1 mil per click turrets that track true and matching Mil Dot reticle.  Incredible value when on sale frequently for $299 only from MidwayUSA.  Put it in an ADM Recon QD mount and you are still under $500.  3x is usable for all but inside 25 yards, and 10x will take you as far as you can shoot a 5.56 before the bullet goes transonic at 700 or so.

If you need illumination, consider the Leupold Mark AR 3-9x40mm with motion activated Firedot TMR reticle.  Also MRAD based.  Usually priced between $400-$450.
