To start off, I'm only looking to spend around $300 for my next red dot.  I've got no complaints with my StrikeFire and Sparc II.  My EoTech EXPS2-2 and Aimpoint Pro are great.  My Lucid 1-6x is far better than it has a right to be.  I just have more rifles than I do optics at the moment.  I was thinking of the MRO, but was wanting to try a reflex sight instead.  It will be going on either and 9mm AR or a 7.62x39mm AK.  I use iron sight with them both now, but I'm looking for a little better/faster system.  I have ZERO experience with the Reflex Sight and thought that there ought to be someone out there with an opinion or two.

The Leupold Deltapoint Pro is outstanding, but beyond your current budget.  If you decide to expand your budget, definitely give it a look.

Seconded.

Maybe a Burris Fastfire in the meantime?

I really like mini reflex sights.  I have both the Burris Fastfire 3 and the duty grade Leupold Deltapoint Pro.  My assessment is that the FF3 is great for all but life and death full time duty.  It even withstands the recoil of a 12 gauge shotgun with full power buckshot and slugs.  It's plenty rugged but needs better screen protection if used under rough conditions. There are inexpensive metal brackets with extended ears that solve that problem.

The advantage to the DP Pro is that it has a larger screen, has seriously strong spring steel protection, and has motion activation, making it ready wben things go bump in the night with no buttons to push.  It also has a screen that is almost crystal clear, a rarety for red dots. It is one of five red dots in the final military trials to replace the EOTechs.  It is a fabulous sight, but costs about three times as much as the FF3.

I have no problem recommending the FF3 for everything short of full time duty and until you eventually upgrade to the DeltaPoint Pro.

What sets the mini reflex sights apart from the tube type red dots is that the rectangle screen lets you see more and there are no exposed knobs, dials, battery compartments or other things that obstruct peripheral vision around the sight shooting both eyes open.  They are also lighter and far more compact.

Here is what my FF3 looked like on one of my carbines.

Another vote for the mini reflex. They're awesome. If you want, start with a cheapo. You'll always have a light duty use for it.
