(please don't derail this by making it about QD or whatever)

I am looking at a fixed mount for a 1-6x24

There seem to be a fair number of options (Larue, Warne, Aero, Vortex, Amazon/ebay no-names … what else?). For the sake of discussion assume scope will not be removed with any regularity and if it is re-zeroing is expected. BUIS will be 45 offset.

But on a fixed setup what are the practical differences?

Quality. Amazon/eBay no names are likely Chinese crap. Larue is of the utmost quality and their non QD stuff is marketed as "semi permanent". Aero is of good quality and designed to be lightweight. Warne should be pretty good they've been in the business for awhile. Without knowing what the cost of the Larue is, I believe Warne or Vortex to be a good choice. Go with Aero if you'd like to save some weight.

Thanks, but was basically a brand name recap based on my initial post. It wasn't nor does it answer the question … what are the differences and what makes it 'better' quality'?

Better quality rings are made of high-quality steel and precision milled to be perfectly round, perfectly sized, and perfectly aligned.  They come with mounting hardware that is up to the task of achieving torque-spec and maintaining it under recoil.  They are backed up by companies with excellent quality control and a responsive customer service department in the unlikely event that you do have a problem.

Typical knockoffs sold on Ebay have none of those characteristics; and if tolerances are off enough, they can damage or even ruin your optic.

The Aero Precision and Leupold's Mark 2 IMS are good choices for fixed mounts.  Both are usually available for around $85 or so in either 30mm or 1" versions.  I think the Mark 2 IMS is probably a bit more rugged.
