Have to gloat The scope is really nice! The illumination on the reticle is really crisp. The center dot doesn't have the starburst look even with my astigmatism. The FOV is sharp all the way to the edge too! Just have to get a mount and decide on whether to put this on DD upper or my latest build... |

Good price on the optic. I'm looking to replace mine on my primary because the barrel distortion is very noticeable and the inside barrel flare when looking at anything bright is pretty bad. I guess have expensive camera lens has spoiled me.
Hopefully you don't have the same problems as mine. |

Another reason I purchased the optic is from the positive experiences everyone has had with their CS dept. I have never had to use it and hopefully don't, but it's nice knowing it's their when needed. |

I was comparing the Viper 1-4 and the Burris MTAC 1-4 and I can live with the barrel distortion at 1x (which seemed to be gone by 1.5x) and the limited CA they both exhibit, so I bought an MTAC. Actually I didnt find much noticeable CA in either until going to 4x. I do wonder about the flare your Viper exhibited. My Viper 2.5-10x's is very controlled and I would say the same for the 1-4x I tested. And I live in AZ, so I got to test it in very bright conditions. However when I compared them to the Strike Eagle and the PA 1-6... Holy shit. The CA was HORRIFIC, and there was noticeable barrel distortion at every magnification. It would drive me absolutely nuts. Honestly I was pretty surprised so many people recommend them after testing them in person. Just my opinion I suppose. Like you, I have fairly decent camera gear and wondered if that made me susceptible to having inconsistencies such as these really stand out to me. |

Regarding distortion at 1x, every single 1-something on the market will show distortion if you don't have the diopter set in the right place. Play with the diopter setting and you can reduce much of the distortion. I will typically look with both eyes open and adjust the diopter until it looks as close to what my non-dominant eye sees as possible. With the 1-4x24 Viper PST I can get a very true 1x image with minimal distortion. In addition, if your turrets are dialed way off center you will also get perceived distortion at 1x when shooting both eyes open. Hope this helps. |
