I'm planning my first build and it'll have my first red dot.
Is the T2 worth the extra cost over the PRO? What are the pros and cons of each? Thanks, |

Thanks, Well for starters the T2 is more expensive, newer, smaller, and weighs a significantly less. I love my T2 and it does the job. I would assume the pro would be more difficult to attach a magnifier as well. |
| I have owned the Pro and an H-1. The smaller lighter H-1 is nice, but it had a bluish-greenish hue looking through the glass and a little weird distortion. I like the larger diameter glass of the Pro and the dot seem less prone to blossoming. The larger Pro seemed easier to use, I think even if they cost the same I'd still go for the Pro. |

Some people prefer the 30mm objective for better viewing in awkward positions. The T2 is lighter with a better battery and has less bluish tint than the T1/H1 models.
I love my T2 as FOV is actually slightly better than the larger Aimpoints due to less housing obstruction. |

The T-2's glass does not have any tint to it like the H1/T1s did. The T-2 is also A LOT better under magnification. Quite honestly though, OP, unless you're wanting to toss a magnifier behind it or that concerned about size/weight, I'd go with the PRO as well. |

isnt that apples vs oranges? just because of the size..
wouldn't it be T2 vs MRO? or pro vs eothingy vs reflex? i've only looked through the T2, seems fine to me though. certainly a small package. the eye box seemed a littel small for my likes and the larger pro/comp stuff doesnt bother me, size wise. or price wise. |

I have not played with a PRO, so my comparison to the similar model CompM3 that I've used should be taken with a grain of salt. I'm more going to talk about a comparison from a larger (CompM3) to smaller (my T-2) usage. The CompM3 I was issued was mounted lower 1/3 and about middle of the upper receiver with a FSB and flip rear sight service rifle, where as my personal T2 is mounted absolute at the front of the receiver (where I think I like it the most, at least right now) with flip front and rear sight on a 300BLK pistol. No magnifier on either rifle, both 2MOA dots.
The smaller T2 does allow me to see more around the sight, and I do not feel pushing the M3 out would help much more than what I currently see (but would be a small improvement). The objective size (18mm on T2 and 26mm for PRO) does not bother me on either optic, as far as co-witnessing the optics I am in the middle. I like the lower 1/3 for not being as restrictive in cheek weld, but absolute is nice because I can deploy my sights and not have to adjust that little bit for proper sight picture. Weight for me is not an issue either (only 7oz difference if using Aimpoint mounts, probably less if using the spacer required for an AR15 for the T2). Batteries however are where I have an issue with both. The small batter of the M3/PRO sucks (I'd prefer the M4 "AA"), and the tab 2032 batter of the T2 is a pain to remove (I feel like I'm going to break the tabs that hold it in). Having said all that, for my 300BLK build (which will be a SBR when I get the stamp) I wanted it to be sleek (minimize things that could get snagged) and compact/lightweight for a CQB/HD rifle so I went with a T2. On the next build, which will be a general purpose type 5.56 rifle, I plan to go with a CompM4 over the PRO solely for the "AA" battery vs 1/3N type (again, that is a personal preference). You could not go wrong with either, as if you looked at specs the only difference between a T2 and PRO (apart from size/weight) is battery life (30,000 vs 50,000), price, and lens diameter. If you do go with the T2 and use the Aimpoint mounts, you MUST use the micro high spacer, as that will put you at absolute co-witness. The spacer comes as a kit with long screws and a bottle of blue liquid (actual loctite or similar, not sure which) as well as that nifty little tool to use to mount the optic. |
