Are the Magpul MBUS Pro front and rear sights really that much better than the MBUS Gen 2? They are double the price in Canada.

I wouldn't say the pro is bette, they do the same job.   The Pro just has a more compact and low profile footprint on the rifle.  So size matters...

YA but for the front Sight why does a smaller size matter there?

Didn't we just do this same thread last week, and the week before, . . .?

Both are very strong, rugged, durable and reliable backups.  The Pro is much slimmer and flatter when folded.  It has more clearance under a mounted scope eyepiece.  Both deflect when struck, contributing to their ruggedness.

I have the PRO LR rear and I really like it. Solid construction, tool-less adjustment, and sized exactly right for the rear of the flat-top so as not to overhang either side. Double the price though, I'm not sure it is worth double.

Can I mix and match he sights or do I have to get the pair? Like could I get the MBUS Pro for the rear sight and the MBUS Gen 2 for Front sights? Or would something be off?

This is a 12" rail and a 50mm objective high powered scope with sun shade. The Gen 2 hit the bottom of the shade, so I went with the Pro front and back.  If you have a shorter rail and try to mount a 50mm scope you could encounter the problem even if no shade or a shorter scope.

I chose not to go with the pros for a simple reason. They are back up sights. If I am needing them, things are really really bad. I prefer the way the gen2s deploy. I can be in full adrenaline dump and gorilla smash them to deploy them vs trying to pinch the slim pros and flipping them up.

Nothing against either sight, I just prefer the way the regular ones deploy.

Pros are a magnificent buis.  My top value choice.

+1. I LOVE the slim profile of the rear sight (snag free). Plus they're built like a tank.

I don't think you can beat the value of the PROs in the all metal sight category.

Do you see what I did there?  I said the all metal sight category, so calm down.

Anyhow, they really are a good BUIS.  I own many different ones.

If you want another very low profile option, you might check out the Spikes Micro.  It is actually slimmer than the MBUS Pro and is click adjustable for elevation.  It's what I use on my scoped ARs.  MBUS Gen 2 fronts on everything.

Does sight picture not matter to anyone?

The Pros have a much better sight picture than the polymer Magpul sights.

ACandian,

I use what ever is the least expensive. Like the others have saif they both do the same job except for one cost more and might be more compact.

I agree. I have a BCM offset scout mount holding a M300 and the MBUS Gen 2 sight are close together. The tabs that stick out on either side make it easy to deploy them, even though the scout is there I can still hit the lever on that side (less hand movement). I have not had any snag-related issues with them and for the purpose, they do a great job.

Care to explain? I have not used the PRO sights, and from what I can tell it is the same design (circle rear with post front) of the standard A2 and MBUS sights (as apposed to a HK type sight). So please, clue me in.

I don't so much mean the view looking at the FSP through the peep sight, I meant the big bulky every else around the FSP and peep sight, it's just that the Magpul polymer sights are so big and clunky they obscure my view around them when compared to the Magpul Pros.

Kind of like but not quite as bad as the Beretta ARX-100 sights.

I am not sure if it is what you meant to address, but I agree that the PROs, actually, any metal sights, provide a better sight picture than MBUS.  There is something about the plastic that creates a fuzziness when I am trying to look through it, and it makes it very difficult for me to focus on the front sight tip.  It is like the rear sight aperture is magically trying to suck the focus out of my eye.  I don't know if my particular eyesight, as I am getting older, has something to do with it, but I have heard others mention the same thing.

Maybe younger/better eyes don't have the problem.  But I won't buy MBUS.  When they come on a rifle, they get replaced with Troys or MBUS PRO.

I don't remember if that was an issue for me or not. I will have to look through the Pros and MBUS back to back when I get a chance.

It matters if you have a laser or flashlight mounted.
