I generally hate posts asking what scope to get but here we go:

I'm looking at something for a midrange hunting and semi-precision rifle. Not a mag dump beater. It's got a good barrel and a good trigger. It's gonna thump some coyotes and maybe raise a little hell with varmints (I already have a varmint rifle so this is not the main role). I'm looking for something under $300 with a mount (I'm cheap). Decent glass and lightweight are what I'm looking for.

I've narrowed it down to:

Leopold Mark AR 3-9 w/mount ~20 oz $300 I can get another mount and drop 5 oz if I need too.

Leupold VX-1 2-7x33 $200 +$80 for a mount @ 12 oz total

Both duplex reticles.

Sorry for this post but I need some fresh ideas.

Both those scopes will have the same grade of glass -- which is to say pretty decent, but close to the bottom end of what Leupold offers.  The main difference between them is that the Mark AR Mod 1 has target turrets that have 1/10 mil clicks instead of covered turrets with1/4 MOA clicks.

Concur.  The Mark AR has VX-1 glass and good mrad based tactical turrets.  The turrets are accurate and repeatable.  That might be a plus for small targets like varmints, especially if reaching beyond 300 yards.

If you can wait until they go back on sale at $299, take a hard look at the Weaver Grand Slam Tactical 3-10x40mm from MidwayUSA.  It has much better glass and has both accurate mrad turrets and a mildot reticle.  I believe it is the best $300 long range tactical scope on the planet, and I tend to recommend Leupold optics for many situations.

I ended up getting the Vx-1 with an aero mount. The combo weighs about 13oz. Compact size and the light weight trumped more mag and turrets. I just don't plan on shooting this thing out past 200 much but I plan on walking with it a bit.

Nothing wromg with a vx-1 2x7 for hunting . I had a vx-2 ,2 x 7x33 on a 458 socom for along time and it was a good scope and took a beating like a champ.

You can buy the Bushnell Elite Tactical 10x40 usually for around $200-$250. The glass is exceptional. I got mine off of the EE for $165 and it's been great. And not too long ago they were around $190 on Amazon.

Sorry just saw where already bought a scope.
