16inch setup. I dont plan on using for long distances...more so for shorter distances/shtf.
I want to get a red dot...do i need a magnifier for slightly longer distances? Do they also magnify the red dot and block the target? Are they useful? Also, is it recommended to have buis with this setup? Seems like a lot on the rail... Any help is appreciated |
| Not sure what your budget is, but I run a PA 2moa Dot ($180) and it's effective out past 200yds no problem. Magnifiers are tricky because if you go that route, you need to make sure they sit at the right height. I've bought and returned a few because they didn't line up right. If you're staying at under 200yds, I'd say ditch the magnifier. It's big, heavy, expensive, and unnecessary. Definitely get buis (especially SHTF); with a red dot, since its non magnified, you can flip up the irons and use them without removing the optic. Optic and BUIS isn't too much on a rail, but add the magnifier and it might be. |

Ty bes, im ditching the mag...buis and redot is my plan. I have a gift cert for primary arms...so ill look at their red dots. Any suggestions from PA? Thanks for your help No problem. PA has awesome customer service, so don't freak out if you get buyers remorse. I had one dot from them that broke after a year of very heavy use and they let me return it . I'd avoid any of their "AA" series, cool concept but the design is flawed. I think they've pretty much closed those out though.
This is mine (except I don't have the laser) and I really like it, though it is quite large: http://www.amazon.com/Primary-Arms-Advanced-Integrated-PACRSL/dp/B00KY246EA/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&qid=1456937694&sr=8-9&keywords=primary+arms+red+dot Here's a smaller micro-dot style that I've heard good things about, but not personally used: http://www.amazon.com/Primary-Arms-Micro-Sight-Removable/dp/B00NC1G0KI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1456937694&sr=8-1&keywords=primary+arms+red+dot |

Budget?
Usage? As someone else mentioned, check out the Trijicon MRO. This is a great option if you are looking for a simple, high quality optic, with a decent price coming in at less than its competitors. Another option you cannot go wrong with is the Aimpoint T-1 or T-2. They cost a bit more than the MRO but they will last forever. I am sure the MRO will as well, but I'm certain the Aimpoints will. |

Was looking at the PA MD-ADS Wanted to keep the red dot 200$ and under if possible Not sure about the integrated laser and adding too much bulk. I like lasers, but more so on the rail further out. If you go to their website, I'm sure they have the MD-ADS without the laser. I agree, lasers can be a little silly. |

The PA MD ADS shouldn't have an integrated laser. Thats Primary Arms Advanced Micro Dot it costs around 169 but if it's going on an AR I believe you need to add a riser mount. |
