new scope > Optics, Mounts, and Sights

I currently have a weaver classic extreme 1.5-4.5 on my ar15, but I am looking for something closer to 1x. I think I have decided to go with the viper pst
1-4. What I am wondering is if there are any other scopes in that price range I should consider.

I was also looking at the SS HD 1-4 but I am not sure I can justify the extra $300.

The pst is good to go. But be aware that the reticle is very small. I like mine a bunch but wish it had a bigger reticle.

So would the reticle in the SS scope be a better choice? This is my do all rifle, and only ar15. I want an optic that will work for cqb as well as punching paper and possibly critter control.

I thought my PST reticle was small, but I adjusted the focus ring so that everything appears true 1x and it enlarged the reticle quite a bit.
