| I have an AR-10 that I would like to mount a scope. I have two scope choices to mount: variable power with a 40mm lens or a variable power with a 50mm lens. Should I just use rings or a cantilever one piece mount? Mounting height? Advantages of each? Too many choices of which I have no expertise. |

On the longer upper receiver of an AR-10 you can use either. It is probably just a matter of personal preference. I'll defer to others on choices for separate rings. For one piece cantilever mounts with QD capabilities, the "usual suspects' are LaRue, ADM and Bobro with some others in the field too. Any of those three will work great. I have both LaRue and ADM depending on application. For scopes, I lean toward LaRue, and for dots and other uses, like accessory mounts, I lean toward ADM. For one piece cantilever type, I prefer the 1.5" from rail to centerline of scope mounting height which is pretty much standard.
If you just need fixed rings with no QD capability, there are lots of good choices. I'm sure guys will chime in with their favorites. There is a lot of respect here for Seekins rings, also for Leupold Mark 4 rings. LaRue makes QD levered separate rings that are just as rugged and reliable as their one piece cantilever mounts. I don't have an AR-10 so I defer on what ring height you would need to use separates. |
