I am a new AR owner so pardon any and all ignorance to my question but I have a S&W M&P15 sport II with the magpul flip up rear iron sight but fixed (A2 style) front iron sight. and am looking at using this sight but i am unsure if i will need a riser and if so which size would i get (S/M/L). i am sure that this sight is not the best out there but i am a recreational range shooter and have a very tight budget and credit to use at Cabellas before it expires.
Thank you for any and all advice |

What risers are you referring to? I see nothing about risers and/or riser heights in the link.
ETA: ah, I see what you're referring to....low, absolute co-witness and lower 1/3. The S/M/L threw me. You'll have to find a riser that works with the attachment method/points, but I'm not even sure who would make one for it. Maybe UTG? As for riser height, that's all pretty much personal preference. Absolute and lower 1/3 are most common. All depends on if you want you front iron tip lined up exactly with the dot or if you want it a little under. |

With a fixed front sight, I would personally opt for lower third cowitness to maintain a clearer field of view whether using the irons or the dot. This, so the front sight does not block your field of view. Primary Arms, a sponsor here, sells two inexpensive risers made by UTG. The taller 1" "high" riser will probably give you lower 1/3 cowitness to do this. The 1" UTG is also available through Amazon and other vendors. These are little short three slot fixed risers and sell for about $10 each. They have a knob on tbe side for installation and removal, but once you install it, don't remove it frequently. At that price, the cross bolt and the threads it goes into are not hardenedcand will easily stretch and then strip out. As long as you leave it alone once installed, it should do fine. |

if you are using your cabellas money this would be a better buy for you http://www.cabelas.com/product/Bushnell-AR-Optics-TRS-HiRise-Red-Dot-Sight/1580687.uts The TRS-25 has been redesigned. And that is not good news. The current one has a design defect in which the dot disappears when in the upper 1/3 of the field of view, due to relocation of the emitter or that its hood is too long. That's a shame. I have the previous generation and it is fine. If the emitter is at 6 o'clock (new design) rather than 4 o'clock (former design) I would avoid it like the plague. FYI my one inch riser did come with that 4 o'clock, good TRS-25. My .830" riser is the UTG medium. |
