| A lot of variable scopes are not known to be daytime bright. That being said, what are the brightest (on 1x) variable optics out there? I'm looking for a 1-4 but will consider a 1-6, and ideally would like a BDC, and be under $2k. |

Just off the top of my head and somewhat in price order..
Trijicon TR24 1-4x Steiner 1-4x Burris XTRII 1-5x Meopta ZD 1-4x Leupold VX6 Multigun 1-6x Vortex Razor Gen II 1-6x Leupold Mk6 1-6x Steiner 1-5x Kahles K16i SM1 1-6x ELCAN SpecterDR 1-4x Swarovski Z6i BRT 1-6x |

The Kahles K16i 1-6X has to be one of, if not the brightest. I cannot get mine to washout no matter how light/white the background is or no matter how bright the sun is. The vast majority of the time when shooting on bright days I have it turned up only about 60% and it is plenty bright.
Unfortunately it's a couple hundred bones north of your designated price range.... |

I believe they made it for civilian shooters in EU because of their wonky "cannot own police/military hardware" laws. |

When you say "brightest" are you referring to image clearness and low image brightness or are you referring to dot illumination brightness in full sunlight? The. best glass is Kahles. The brightest illumination is probably the Leupold Firedot reticle. The Kahles K16i is a phenomenon scope. The Leupold VX-6 1-6x24 Multigun CDS has very good glass with a great BDC reticle (CMR-2 illuminated) and several different Firedot reticle choices, including the Firedot SPR and stay within $1300 or so. |

I'm not an expert but for the money, the XTR II 1-5 has always called my name. |
| Burris XTR2 1-5 is probably the brightest reticle I have seen ( although my illumination has gone out twice now, very disappointed with Burris as all the rest of thier products have rocksolid performers)... and I also have a Leupold VXR 2-7 with the firedot reticle, Some are mentioning the Vortex 1-6, from what i recall the Vortex reticle will wash out in bright daylight against lighter backgrounds |

If they are in fact referring to the Vortex Strike Eagle, then yes, that reticle might wash out . Of course there's like $1,000 difference between those two scopes. It's a shame to hear about the Burris XTRII 1-5; that and the Bushnell SMRS 1-6.5 in SFP are on the short list for tax return spending. Not sure if the extra cost is worth it for the Bushnell, but it might be if it works from day one and continues to do so. Would love to be able to pick up the Kahles 16i, but holy moly that is a lot for a 1-6. If I had the funds, I would go with that without hesitation. |

I can't necessarily keep it under 2k or include a BDC, but in my experience these seem to have the brightest illumination: - Schmidt & Bender 1.1-4x24 Zenith Short Dot LE - Swarovski 1-6x24 Z6i - Meopta 1-4x22 R1 (older model) |

I've got a Leopold VX6 1-6x with the Firedot reticle that I've been impressed with. I also had at one time a Trijicon TR24 1-4x with the green triangle reticle that I was favorably impressed with. I sold it to fund other projects, and always somewhat regretted that.
The newer Burris glass, particularly the 1-5x and 1.5-8x have gotten my attention, as the price and features are right. They are heavy though. For example, the Leopold VX6 clocks in at 14.6oz, while the Burris 1-5x comes in at 21.1oz... |
