I was looking at a Vortex Spitfire 1x. They seem to be on sale a lot for black friday. Has anybody used one of these optics and have any input on them?

I have never used an optic with an etched reticle before. It would go on an 18" rifle gas AR.

I was also considering a bushnell Trs-25 or a Vortex Strike fire II.

I just ordered one from psa. I looked at one in a store. I liked how it looked. Was clear and easy to see the reticle. It's going on my 9mm ar.

American Defense also makes a nice QD mount for the Spitfires.  Here is the version for the 1X: http://www.americandefensemanufacturing.com/view/product/1139/

Right now they are 10% off with free shipping.  I went ahead and ordered a second mount...saved $20 total over the first mount I purchased.

Thanks for the input I will look into the links.

PSA had some deals on 9mm ar parts...I'm very tempted to buy those.

Would this be an optic you would pick over a strike-fire, TRS-25 or say a red dot from primary arms.

If you have astigmatism this is the 1x optic for you. Even if you don't have astigmatism, this is still the one I would choose from those three.  Build quality and lifetime warranty on the Vortex are excellent.

But that TRS-25 for $50 that I saw is nearly as good of a deal.  You can also convert the high rise mount that ships with the TRS-25 to quick release for about $20 with this arm: http://www.armsunlimited.com/QD-Lever-Mount-Conversion-Kit-Bushnell-TRS25-p/lmc-btrs.htm

Where did you see the TRS-25 for $50. I saw it for 59 on PSA. I am really torn between the two of them. Ive been just watching videos on them both. I've also considered going a different route and just getting a vortex crossfire II in 2x7. The good sales are pressing my decision.

Sorry, my bad...it was the $59 at PSA...hit the wrong key. PSA and some other places have had them for $49.99 in the past but I haven't seen it that low this year. Still, $59 is a very good deal if you don't have any eye problems.  I am also looking at that Strikefire...I'm just trying to figure out a way to convince my wife I need another optic.

Same here! haha

My 18" AR was wearing a Vortex 3x9x40 and Magpul BUIS but I was just gifted a 30-06 so the scope had to go on that. So now I'm basically trying to decide what I want to get for the rifle now.

I don't have any eye problems but do wear glasses. I just found the etched reticle interesting and the steep discount turned me onto that optic. I was not thinking about it until I saw it at PSA along with the TRS-25 at a very good discount also. Do you own either one?

I own one Spitfire 1x and have another on the way from PSA. I haven't owned the Bushnell, but I've used the TRS-25 before...it's good, but the Spitfire is superior and most certainly better built with clearer glass.  People were paying closer to $250-$300 for them just a month or so ago, so $150 is a much better discount than on the TRS-25. That said, the TRS-25 is much lighter...if you don't have astigmatism and are looking at saving weight, the TRS-25 is a great little red dot that would serve you well.  Some folks don't like the large ring on the Spitfire reticle, but I find it useful for quickly acquiring a target...I find the Vortex is just as quick as a standard red dot in target acquisition.  The warranty on the Vortex has a lifetime transferable warranty and the Bushnell is one year non-transferable...so not only is the Vortex better, but you get much more peace of mind. You could always order both and see which you like...I'm sure you could sell the one you don't like as much for at least what you paid for it on sale.

Thanks for all the input. I will take a look at both and decide today most likely. I do have reservations about the vortex reticle having so many circles, not sure how I would like that.

I feel the same way, but based on everyone's input, I decided to take a chance on it given the discounted price through PSA.

Ya same I am most likely ordering it when my wife gets home. As a Christmas present. I figure if I don't like it it will sell for at least the same price. I saw that there was a 3x optic also but have not found that on sale.

That is interesting. I ordered mk one Friday around 8 pm. Have not received shipping information. Maybe tomorrow it'll finish processing. I'm not in too big of a rush just would like it here in one piece. Getting here by this weekend would be nice.

I got one back in July as part of a bundle with a rifle kit from PSA.  I wasn't expecting much but ended up liking it quite a lot.

Would recommend.

Shot the Spitfre 1X for a few months now. Very good glass and illumination. You better redo the four mounting screws with red or blue loc-tite before zeroing. Mine came lose after a few hundred rounds. The factory mount is a bit too tall for nose to charging handle shooters but the new one from AMD should fix that.

I will be sue to use Blue Loc-Tite when I get the optic. I usually do anyways. Thanks for that tip. The Spitfire just shipped from PSA today.

I have 2, one on a 9mm AR and one on a mid-length carbine. Second the recommendation on using blue locktite on the mounting screws.

Both optics have been flawless and I honestly don't even notice the circles when turned on.

Ordered it last thursday. According to the tracking my order is processed and ready for ups...  Was hoping psa shipping gotten quicker. Better not take 31 days like the last time I ordered something from them.

Got mine today (ordered last Friday).  I like the glass, especially for the price.   It will probably be a while before I get to shoot it.

IIRC I have ordered from PSA about 15 times and I have always received the item within 2 weeks.

I just received my spitfire from psa today. The optic is very nice and the glass is nice and clear. It just feels like a quality  optic. I put it on my AR and used blue loctite  on the base. Sighted it in at 50 yards and all went well. I am very pleased with it and I find the etched reticle to be great. I look forward to shooting it alot more in the near future.

I got mine and sighted it in at 25 yards on my 9mm ar.  Crisp, clear and a big field of view.  I didn't think I'd like the 2 rings and dot, but it's crisp and easy to get on target. Haven't tried shooting it with illumination yet.

I do a 50 yard zero with my 65 gr game king reloads.

I do actually like the etched reticle and the circles I was not sure I would. The illumination is great also.

I do find the 1/3 witness to be difficult due to the etched reticle. But really I feel the etched reticle makes the buis a real back up because unless he optic is shattered you'll have   an aiming point.

Is there any compelling reason to ignore the 1x if one is also looking at the Aimpoint Pro?
12/9/2015 7:22:31 PM EDT

The Spitfire at $149 is nigh unbeatable for the price.  The glass is crystal clear, no tint at all.  The reticle is always there etched and works well in everything but darkness. The illumination knob is a bit stiff and settings 3 and 4 seem identical. I could do with1color so as to make the knob half the size of what it is now.   I bought this optic at $220 and it was a good buy at that price IMO. It is built tough and it Eotech quick on target.

I decided to upgrade the base to the American Defense QD because ....1) I overtorqued the damn hex bolt (which admittedly has always been a bad habit of mine especially when it comes to scope mounts) and broke it and 2) I wanted a QD mount since this scope will be doing double duty for a while.  I couldn't be more pleased with the American Defense mount.  If anyone is on the fence, I would highly suggest it.
