I have a scope that I was using a sunshade on. It is 42mm. I wanted to go to an ARD because it would be more compact, and I would be less concerned about bumping it and damaging the scope.
I didn't know the scope was 42mm, I thought it was a 40. I bought a Leupold 40mm snap in, which didn't fit right, naturally. I set it in and used a little duct tape to hold it in place. The image through the scope was horrible. There was no way that I would have felt comfortable taking a shot on an animal at more than 200M. Is this because the ARD was touching the lens? Do all ARDs degrade scope picture? Thanks. |

(snip).. Do all ARDs degrade scope picture? Thanks. Yes by their nature. It sounds to me like your problem is more likely your attachment though. Alignment of the ARD is important. If you used duct tape to attach it I would not bet on your alignment being very good. Plus it is not the correct size. Get the right ARD and mount it correctly. Not what you wanted to hear but... |
| Most don't use the ARD unless they have a real need, real need as in concealment. It will degrade the sight picture somewhat. You might want to look through a scope with and without a correct fitting ARD for yourself to decide if it is worth it to you. Edit to say: I have ARDs and sunshades for a few scopes, I don't use them. Scope caps for each optic is enough. |

It would kill me to spend $120 for an item just to see if it works. |
