I am looking at getting a co-witness red dot at an affordable price. I am looking at both the Primary Arms Advanced Micro Dot with Push Buttons and the Vortex Strikefire II. Both get good reviews with the Primary arms being lighter in weight. Anyone have experience with one or both that can clue me in? I have 2 other ar15s, but never ran a red dot sight.

I have a StrikeFire 1 that is pretty nice.  One of my favorite features is Vortex's lifetime warranty.  I've read of several accounts of people having hassle free warranty experiences with them.

I have 2 pa rds and they're both great. Never had a vortex but by the sounds of the reviews I'm sure both would work out good for you.  I'm more partial to pa red dots.

I have a gen1 strikefire, it's big and a bit heavy.  Battery life obviously isn't remotely close to the PA.

BUT.... you get a lifetime warranty by Vortex which I've used.  Rifle fell off the bench onto concrete and landed on the on-off switch on the vortex and the switch just disintegrated, you couldn't feel anything under the rubber boot.  The optic still worked and zero was unaffected but obviously I couldn't turn it off any more or change the intensity.  It's interesting to me that a killed switch on the strikefires leaves it in an on condition.  Someone else had the same thing happen with the same results.  You're reduced to unscrewing the battery cap a bit to turn it off but at least it still works.

I boxed it up, put a note on the sheet I printed out from Vortex about what happened.  Got it back a week later and it was good as new.

THe PA microdot has a 3 year state warranty but with a 50k battery life you can leave it on for about 3 years give or take before you might want to consider putting a fresh battery in just in case.  LED's typically are rated at 100,000 hours so in theory you could turn it on and leave it on for about 9 years 24/7 which would make it a good site for a HD set up where you don't want to ahve fumble the site on in the middle of the night while someone is breaking down your door.

With that all said, I just put in an order for a PA MD this morning for a pistol build.
