| Need help picking between a SWFA SS HD 1-4x24 Tactical 30mm and the standard one is it worth double the price? Thanks |

SWFA has stated that the HD has better glass, but I think it's more than glass quality that accounts for the price differential. The HD is a first focal plane scope, while the Classic has the reticle in the second focal plane. The Classic has a ranging reticle that looks very interesting and well thought out. The HD has a reticle that can be used like a red dot at 1x and mil scale at 4x.
There's certainly debate about whether first focal plane reticles are useful on a low powered variable. Once you decide which kind of reticle you want, that will help narrow your decision. Unless you're basing your decision purely on glass quality. |

I did not notice the FFP reticle in the HD specs. I do not like FFP on low power scopes. Were it me making that choice, I'd want better glass and SFP and would probably look elsewhere to find both. |

The classic seems like a decent option for it's price range. The HD is rather dated now and would not be in consideration for me.
I recently picked up a Steiner military 1-4 on closeout and the glass on it kicks the crap out of the my SWFA HD 1-6. The Steiner should be about the same price as the HD now. |

Maybe consider the Leupold VX-R Patrol 1.25-4x20 with Firedot SPR reticle at about $550-600.
Here's a decent review I have the midpowered 3-9x40mm version with Firedot TMR reticle, but many of the features are the same otherwise. |

A little search and the steiner is out of stock or 1300+ Call Euro Optic and see if they still have one in stock for $795. The $800 price point is about the street price of the Burris XTR II 1-5x24mm. |
