Welcome. With respect, you do NOT want to do what you suggest. Your scope line of sight needs to be on the same plane as that front sight for you to have correct cheek weld with your stock. Your scope will not focus close enough for the front sight to interfere with its use. At worst, it might appear as a faint shadow or blur and will completely disappear at 3x or above.
Hang around here and read the threads, look at the photos of different setups. No one with M4 type uppers tries to mount a scope above the front sight unless forced to mount a scope on an A2 style carry handle rear sight. |
| I got one from brownells, DPMS I think. Work fine. I wish someone made one with Allen screws though. I hate the thumb screws. Might look into changing them out one day. When I was in the Army that's all I disliked about our aimpoints as they would snag and rub you and uniforms raw etc. But they all seem to have them. |

are the bolt on carry handles secure , tight fitting. I have a A1 that was I built when I was an armorer for uncle Sam. not opposed to adding a carry handle if it is sturdy. could you recommend a model To be honest I would look into one of the many flip up rear back up iron sights if this is your plan. Currently my favorite ones are the Magpul Pros. Then when you figure out what you want to do for a scope you can just fold them down and out of the way. |
| I'm one of those that on a SHTF rifle think irons are the way to go. So I like carry handle rear sights. I would have gone with a A2 style upper but my rifle is built to the limit of my budget, it's quality parts. In doing so I had to make it so it could serve multiple rolls, so I went with an A3 flat top receiver so I have the carry handle irons and a 3x9x40 Nikon BDC scope for it. |

For rings you need "ultra high".
For a mount you need 1.5" above bore. when your scope is at 4x or higher, the fixed front sight will totally (or at least mostly) dissappear, from your field of view. Do not try to go over the FFS, or your cheek weld gets fairly compromised. |
