| Build is completed just need to add an optic preferably a small lightweight compact red dot. I can't justify spending $600 on a red dot so that leaves aimpoint out of the question and the eotechs are to heavy and bulky imo. I've been reading and everyone keeps recommending a Bushnell TRS25 however there seems to be some other quality optics out there as week specifically the Holoson gen 2s with an American Defense mount would put me around $250-$260 which is a little easier to swallow. What should I do? |

Second the TRS-25.
Another one to look at in the budget category is the Walther PS22. Pretty decent as well. $65 bucks on amazon and comes with the mount. Have it mounted to a .22 and have shot a couple thousand rounds through it. Like my SPARC better but for the price, pretty decent. |

Go for the Bushnell. It's only $75 + a $15 mid-rise mount on Amazon. Eventually you're going to want to upgrade to the good stuff.
Take it from me, some guy on the Internet: Don't ever try a buddy's rifle w/ a $600 dot on it. The Bushnell 3moa dot isn't as clear as the $600 dot, but it's also $500 less expensive. the price to value ratio is really strong. I was really happy w/ mine and it improved my aim over iron sights. I did upgrade in the end and was glad I only replaced $75 worth of equipment. It's not too expensive if you decide you want a 4x or variable scope instead later on. |

Primary arms have a proven track record.
They helped Holosun out and those are good to go too. The 50K battery is really nice on these models. Plus, you can get them a bit cheaper on the EE as people like me upgrade to T1s and T2s. $125 for a like new one, plus $50-$60 for a DD or Seekins mount is the best deal going. Vortex is bulky and doesn't have the battery life, but are Hugh quality and I think have lifetime warranties--through PA has insanely good CS too. |

I've got an older trs25 and it's great, I put it on builds as a place holder until I decide what optic I want. It is currently on a 10/22 and is great. However I have heard some bad reviews of the newer ones where Bushnell moved the diode, so I would go with a primary arms now. |

Please note that there are some issues with the current version of the TRS-25.
Bushnell moved the emitter diode from 4 o'clock position on the right side, to the bottom at 6 o'clock. They put a hood over it that extends out from the diode. This is a serious design flaw, IMHO. That hood prevents the dot from being visible in the upper 1/3 of the field of view, seriously limiting its utility as a red dot. Red dots are designed to be parallax free, or essentially so, and are intended to permit the user to fire accurately without having to be directly behind the center of the rear lens. If you can see the dot anywhere in the lens, and put it on the target, it should put the bullet there. There are several threads here on this subject, including posting of photos. Older models both with unshrouded 6 o'clock emitters and with the 4 o'clock style, which I have, permit the dot to be visible all the way to the edge in any direction. Bushnell has been contacted about this, claims it is not a single unit flaw, but actually is present in all of the new ones. To me, this is unacceptable, and their "excuse" is just that. Look for one with the 4 o'clock emitter, if buying. There may still be some on the shelf. If you e-order you don't know what you will get, it is likely to disappoint you if you want full use of the dot. But for this serious, uncorrected design flaw, the TRS-25 has been a very nice little budget red dot. Alternatives would include PA's various dots, and the nice little Lucid M7 that I also run (have two of them actually). Bushnell needs to fix this. |

This Primary Arms red dotwould be my choice if I didnt already have two of their older red dots. 50k hours of battery life and fits the common Aimpoint T1 mounts at the correct height.
Its similar to the Holosun but I think the feature set is better on the PA sight. |

This one is too new to have solid feedback records, but a great review from Shotgun News got my curiosity so I got one.
http://www.opticsplanet.com/leatherwood-hi-lux-micro-max-b-dot-20mm-digital-2-moa-dot-sight.html Dot is crisp and glass is on par with others in price range. So far so good but only have it a month. The old Bushnell TRS25 on my AK74 is working just fine, no issues after 2 years so if you have budget limit then the Bushnell should fill the niche. |
