can't the optic be removed from the factory supplied mount and switched to a LaRue mount?

I hate the screws, want levers...

Yes. Any mount that fits an acog that the ta51 fits. The GDI mount offers the most flexibility regarding eye relief.

Bobro makes an awesome mount for the VCOG.

The Samson RAM ACOG mount works great too.  It allows the VCOG to be mounted about 3/4" more forward to gain some eye relief.

I am a huge fan of Bobro, but would like to bring up that Bobro and Trijicon seem sideways. Bobro does not advertise their ACOG mount as a VCOG mount, and they specifically made a VCOG mount, while Trijicon soldiered on with their original ACOG/VCOG design. I sense a bit of contractual obligation/bad blood between the two.

Bobro feels (obviously) that the ACOG mount they offer does not allow proper eye-relief for the VCOG, hence they have created their cantilevered VCOG mount with dual throw-levers which looks like their regular tube-style scope mounts.

ADM, LaRue, and a host of others all make ACOG mounts, and all will fit the VCOG.

However, Bobro is the only one seemingly who "admits" that this is not ideal.

Bobro's solution and GDI's solution are the only "ideal" mounts for the VCOG, the way I see it, if you wish to modify eye-relief position on a platform like the AR/M4. With the SCAR, it won't matter.

GDI originally made their ACOG mount to place the optic closer to the eye. It is inherently reverse-cantilevered, and it has multiple mounting holes (as does the bottom of the VCOG), giving good flexibility, there, as well.

Or it can be mounted "backwards" to cantilever the optic FORWARD instead of rear like GDI initially intended.

That looks like this:

Of course, some adjustability using only the holes in the VCOG is possible with all mounts, I would think, just not the flexibility as the GDI or the purpose-design of the BOBRO dual-lever VCOG specific.

Some may wonder...well is the GDI good to go, "reversed"? Well, this is what Marko had to say via E-mail when I requested info about this, specific to the VCOG:

[you] can mount the VCOG (or ACOG) to the R-COM E-Model w/mount in either standard direction (or backwards) without performance variances.

To realize maximum zero retention and zero repeatability (RTZ) following removal, the mount should be remounted in the exact rail location used when zeroing (and in the same directional orientation).

Mainly my interest is the R com model for the acog. I want to use it on a vcog, mounted backwards to give better eye relief. The vcog has the opposite issue of the acog. Is mounting the mount backwards in any way less durable/ functional regarding how the mount and latch handle recoil? Does gdi advertise them as going either way?

So, not only is BCM showing us, but GDI (who makes the mount), is telling us "It's fine".

To me, the GDI is the winner secondary to this flexibility. All QD mounts for the ACOG/VCOG (except the Bobro dual lever) weigh similar, and will get the job done, and cost within $100 of each other (given the optic is around $2K, $100 either way for your favorite mount is a moot point, IMO)

ETA:

Was unaware of the Samson and its eye-relief, Looking at the mount, though, I don't see how that works? It looks like every other TA51 "QD clone" mount.

I have a VCOG with the Trijicon QD mount and have it mounted as far forward on the upper as possible and eye relief is fine for me, but I dont shoot nose to CH.  Regarding the Bobro vs Trijicon thing, it is my understanding that Bobro supplies Trijicon with the QD/lever parts and Trijicon uses these components on their own mount.

I got the vibe that it was dirty feelings between the two.

Regardless, how do you like your VCOG and what other scopes have you tried? What style of shooting have you used the VCOG for (square range, duty, 3-gun, carbine courses, vermin...?)

Unfortunately, I don't have much experience with other scopes in this class.  I got to the VCOG from an Accupoint.  I plan on using my AR as a multipurpose rifle, but as of right now, only have plinked with it.  I shoot it with both eyes open at 1x no problem, glass is clear, but reticle is not daytime bright even on the highest setting.  I personally don't see this as a problem as I don't have it turned on in the daytime anyways.  Sorry I wish I could give you some more feedback, but my experience is very limited.
