The other day I was looking at pictures of the Are SCR, and I began wondering about how one would go about mounting iron sights on this beast?  This is assuming either a standard FSB is on the barrel or a longer FF rail is being used to accommodate a front sight.  Due to it's low comb on the stock, a scope would be fine in standard height rings, however sights made for the AR platform would sit very high, maybe too high.  The other option I seen the rifle offered with was a Monte Carlo style stock with raised cheek piece.  Would this be high enough to properly use iron sights?

In my opinion, normal AR irons are way too high. With normal irons on my monte carlo SCR I am only touching the stock with my jaw bone, not my cheek at all. And I have a big head, too! In another SCR thread somebody posted their setup with normal irons which they said worked well for them, but other people said "what, how?"

On my SCR right now I have an Aimpoint CompML3 mounted in 30mm low ring from Primary Arms which puts the dot 0.84 inches above the rail. Normal AR sights are something like 1.5 inches above the rail.  I had an American Defense AD-68L mount which put the dot 1.1 inches above the rail and it felt a little too high for my tastes.

I haven't found any height stats for things like the Troy micro sights or I would have tried them out already. If somebody could measure a pair and see how high the aperture is off the rail that would be nice but I can't find that info. I considered MP7 sights folded down in pistol configuration but I also can't find out how tall they are and I'm not going to take a $300 gamble from HKParts.net

No regrets on the monte carlo stock. The sporter stock would be so low I don't know how you would even use it.

+1 to above. They (Ares) kind of messed up when they designed the stock. Even with the monte carlo stock there is no way you are going to comfortably use AR height iron sights. Sporter stock would be completely worthless I would imagine.

Even absolute co witness red dot mounts are a bit high. A micro dot mounted directly to the receiver with no riser works well.

I'd love to see a Magpul SGA stock redesigned for the SCR to get the cheek weld up to AR height.
