Looking to get an ACOG for my new rifle, I had the chevron reticle in the past, was not that crazy about it. Would like opinions on other options.
Rifle will be used for target shooting, 100 to 300 yards, max. I am thinking about the cross hair, as that is what I have on my other variable rifle scopes. I like the eye relief on the 11 series, but the additional .5X magnification on the 31 series is also something to consider. I know eye relief is not critical on 5.56, but I do like to have it regardless of which rifle caliber I am shooting. Thanks, 77 |
| I always get TA11s as I do not shoot nose to charging handle and the 2.4 inch eye relief is awesome. For that range, the 3.5 is more than enough. For me, I prefer the horseshoe reticle. It has a nice dot in the middle which is 100yards and the top of the post is 300 yards. |

i like the horseshoe/dot reticle in green personally. here's a pic from another thread posted by a board member that explains the reticle pretty good. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v619/1iviper/4gvOqY1_zps05150ad6.jpg OK, thanks for the explanation. My mis-understanding. This makes sense. As far as the color, I know amber is out, I tried one time and did not like it. I have only owned red, green is an option, but I am concerned of wash out in daylight against green background. First time I have seen the HS explained, I like it 77 |

I've always just gone red. I tried green, but I really prefer red. I had red on the chevrons, liked the color All of my ARs now have Aimpoints, which of course are red. This new optic Is for my long waited for OBR. Which I feel will benefit from a magnified optic. 77 |

Green is my favorite.
I like my TA11H-G. I have a TA 31 RCO A5 (red chevron) on my A5 clone and it is fine. I got a new TA11G (green donut) in a trade that I'm gonna sell, popular with 3 gun. The green, IMHO, is the brighter of the two (red/green) in the dark. |

Normally, the last portion will help dictate the rifle it was designed for. The A4CP is for the M16A4, the M150 and the M4CP are both for the 14.5" M4/M4A1. The M16A5 was requested by the Marine Corp who were looking for an improved 20inch gun. That being said, the A4CP would work on it since they both have 20 inch barrels |

The PIP program was put on hold because of cost and it being cheaper to just reequip Victor battalions and "infantry like" GCE units with some of the 80K M4s in the Marine Corps inventory. One of the interesting data points was during the PIP testing one of the factors was would a new reticles be needed but through live firing tests the A4RCO was actually ballisticaly closer to a 16" barrel gun than the 20" it was designed for. |

Another vote for the green horseshoe.
I have the 4x32 ACOG with an amber chevron (i got this reticle because this exact model was on sale $300 cheaper w/ RMR vs. other ACOGs w/ RMR My eyes are good enough that the chevron can glow/grow bright enough to obscure the bullesye on a target in bright sunlight. For that reason, I have to block off part of the fiber optic tube on top. I think the tiny dot in the center of the horseshoe reticile would obscure/ grow less even in the bright sunlight - and you would still have the outer horseshoe available for close in fast acqusition shots. Though I am happy I paid $300 less and would change the way I got my ACOG. (ie. paid more for the horseshoe). |

Yes it is an A4 and not an A5 lol. TA31RCO-A4 Marine version. |

Green doesn't wash out against anything green, I promise I may take you up on this....I have a green laser I use at work to point out stuff in the plant pipe racks, and it is easy to see in the daylight. Not that this makes any difference or is applicable for optics. I have settled on the horseshoe TA11, the color will be decided at the last minute. Thanks, 77 |

TA11 with green horseshoe is ideal in my opinion.
I also have the TA11 with the donut reticle. It's very nice, but I prefer the horseshoe. The top of the donut reticle is zero at 100 yards. The center dot of a horseshoe is more intuitive. I hate having to tell people, "the top of the green circle is your crosshair" when they use that TA11 with the donut. If you hand someone the TA11 with the horseshoe reticle you don't have to say squat ... it's just intuitive. |
