It appears that Leupold has decided to ditch the never released Delta Point 2 in favor of an even beefier, rugged design, the Delta Point Pro.
I've been trying to get the DP2 for about 6 months. The release date kept coming and kept getting pushed back. I really liked the changes: battery moved to the top so that the optic did not have to be removed from the mount and resighted; a true "off" switch, so it could be really shut down and not just shrouded to preserve battery life and to permit transport without running the battery down, and a more rugged hood to protect the glass. It was also to have auto intensity setting in addition to the motion detection circuits used on the original DP and on the Firedot reticle scopes. That's a lot of improvement. Well, only pre-production models were every made available, and then only to beta-testers and the media. The preliminary feedback was all positive, as far as Internet reports were concerned. Now, vendors are showing the DP2 as "discontinued." Curiosity took me back to Leupold's web site and, behold, I now know why: They were apparently responding to a desire to make the optic even stronger, incorporating a very strong secondary hood, much like what they build into the one used on the HAMR. There are going to be separate accessories to go with it, too, such as an auxiliary pistol rear sight to co-witness through the glass, and also a dedicated AR riser. Here is the link: Leupold Delta Point Pro The street price on the DP2 was supposed to be about $400. I hope that is the case with the DP Pro. I have no idea when it will show up for sale, but it looks very good for guys who want a very light (less than 2 ounces), very strong micro-reflex to offset mount with a high powered scope, or for use as a primary on a riser on an AR or directly on the rail of a tactical shotgun. I want one. Soon. Come on, Leupold, get this thing on the shelves.

It's really nice, and what's great is it will mount on Leupold's new super-secret 6X, etched reticle with BDC, that mounts behind most any red dot (and has an offset lens that hangs over the ejection port area).
There is ALSO a new red dot that is like a square with an EoTech size square window, but an aimpoint dot. The fact that it uses a CR123 ANDP has auto-off and auto-on, means that one battery should last as long as a battery can last (or perhaps that you could take batteries that won't push a high lumen flashlight and still use it in your red dot). I got to handle all three sights and was blown away. |

Not a fanboy, but someone who appreciates a company that pulls release of a product until it is ready and uses the delay to make it better. We shall see. Sarcasm may be warranted or there may be crow to be eaten. We shall see. |
| I've had a Delta Point 2 on order for several months before getting an email from Leupold that they had to cancel the order because they were putting out the Delta Point Pro instead. I'll be putting my order for the Pro as soon as I can. This thing looks very nice. |
| On another usergroup board where this topic is being duscussed, a Leupold rep posted that they are filling mil and LE orders now, first priority, and plan to start supplying commercial vendors in the Spring. I don't know if this is true, but the poster was a Leupold staff member. |

Fixed. You don't even have to move your head--you just look through any red-dot (aimpoint, eotech, leupold's new square aim-tech hybrid), and when you see a target too far away, you simply glance down (move only your eyes, not your head) into the scope, and what you saw in the red dot is now magnified 6X with a BDC. It really is a nice system that's evidently already being used/tested by a certain former unit of a certain leupold pro-team member.
I think the price is going to be way out of my budget. |

IF the deltapoint PRO can come in at </= $400 street price, it'll definitely take away some of the RMR market.
I'm betting it's $450 or so, and the new square red dot sight (that has a large Eotech-like window with a tiny Aimpoint like red-dot (1-1.5MOA-ish?) will come in at like $650-$700. I probably don't want to know what the 6X will cost since it's like a flattened out TA01NSN acog except with more magnification and a mirror (the BDC curves exponentially since the scope is off to the right of the center-line). |

I had a prototype last Jan/Feb and was very impressed by the design and features. If you mill it in low enough and flush with the back of the slide you can cowitness sights and fit the Safariland 6354DO holster. A ton of user feedback went into these and making them the best slide mounted sight available.

I don't know why Leupold is still showing the the DP2 starting at $599? The 2015 MSRP is $749. They will be filling LE and military orders first so the first ones to trickle out to the streets will be pricey.
I would guess expect $550-$600. We should have some news from Vegas soon. Although it is very unconventional, the 6x D-EVOis going to be sweet. |

This is the one Leupold says is being first distributed to military and LE and claiming a Spring '15 release date. Here is a link to Leupold's website current today and it is being shown as list price as $599, not $749. Where did the higher price number show up? |
