Can someone point me in the direction of a place that sells different height front sights ?
I know it is an issue when using a detachable carry handle and with some BUIS to have a HIGHER than normal front sight. However what I want is a shorter front sight for two of my guns. I have a Service Rifle upper and my 200 yard zero requires 58 quarter minute clicks on the A2 rear sight with the front sight screwed all the way down. This doesn't keep me awake at night, I still have plenty of elevation left on the A2 rear sight elevation knob, but it does seem weird to me. Today, for the first time, I tried a set of BUIS on my 10.5" SBR upper. I found that it also shoots WAY low with the front sight screwed all the way down. I am assuming this is due to the short sight radius and the fact that this upper has a standard front sight/gas block and a flat top receiver, so the rear sight may be lower than it would be if I was using a carry handle. Using a target paster in the center of an 8 1/2"x11" sheet of paper, I am clear off the paper low at 50 yards. I did a search and found various places selling front sights, but most didn't list any kind of specifications for them. |

I've got 2 different height posts. Gimme a moment to measure them. The one in my NM A2 is 0.265" from the top of the base to the tip. The one in my dad's NM A2 is 0.315". Our rear sights are set at about 2.5 - 3.5MOA off bottom for 100 yards, and my front post base is just below flush with the opening, but my dad's is about 0.050" further in and probably not far from bottom. It seems like you started off with the taller ones. I did a quick search and couldn't find shorter ones assuming yours are indeed standard. Odd, in my experiences with others carbines, they shoot high with the front post all the way up. |
