| Is there a benefit to a good QD mount other than convenience or you need to remove in a hurry? A BIG hurry. |

It's good if you're running irons or wanna switch to a red dot or a different optic
I was considering getting a QD pepr mount, but I will opt instead for nikon AR two piece rings, it's cheaper and does the same thing as a QD one piece mount - keeps the scope in place. I am working on an SPR project and I only intend to leave the scope on. I will have no need to take it off so that why I'm not going the QD route |
| I like to remove my scope when I clean my rifle...when I feel like shooting irons...when I want to throw on a different scope with LOTS of power to do a little precision shooting....when I pack my rifle to travel...in case my optic gets damaged in a firefight when the Russians invade Red Dawn style. All of these reasons are why I went with a GOOD QD mount. Good being the key word because if it won't return to zero after removing it and reinstalling, it's not worth having. |

Is there a benefit to a good QD mount other than convenience or you need to remove in a hurry? A BIG hurry. Yes, especially if you want to run a red dot for home defense or tactical purposes, but swap to a scope for precision work. If each is zeroed in a high quality return to zero QD mount, then in seconds you can move from one to the other and know that the other optic is sighted in and the rifle will hit where you aim. I have a red dot in an ADM QD and a 3-9x40mm tactical scope in LaRue QD SPR mounts. Each is zeroed for its intended use. Each returns to zero within 1/2 MOA when swapped with no need to re-sight the optic wasting ammo and time. This is far more than either convenience or being in a hurry. When I come in from shooting at the range at longer distances, I want to have the red dot on that rifle when it is in my bedroom for home defense. I know that when I put it on, the rifle will shoot where I aim . . . every time. My own life or that of my family may depend on that. |
| Looks like most reasons are covered. I switch between my T-1/Larue 660, Vortex 1-4/ADM, Irons when I want and I am always zeroed with each type of sight. Saves ammo, time, and frustration. Pricy at first yes but if you switch often you will save that $ in ammo quickly. |
| SO, the hurry that I speak of would be in a defensive situation, something happens to the variable or red dot, quick access to irons. But, you can achieve the same outcome with a bolted or screwed down mount, right? So are we really back down to convenience. Just hard to shuck out 3 bills for a qd. But when I get one , can see buying one of the best because it's right on, so to speak.. can't do it now, but later it'll happen. Btw , great input. |
| We gave you the answers. They are honest and real. Its up to you what to do with them. To your point, you can cowitness your irons through a red dot. You can't with a scope, and finding and deploying a 13mm wrench "in a hurry" would be fun to watch. If you can't presently swing QD return to zero, due to cost, understand, but do not underestimate its utility. It is worth saving for. |

The burris pepr worked well for me when I tried one. Return to zero and is well built..not built as well as Larue or ADM but it did its job. They can be had for under 3 bills used Also the tools to take a QD off are always on the rifle but your wrench or little allen tool might find its way elsewhere lol |
