Well I love my Vortex Viper 1-4 MRAD scope.

-MRAD Adjustable turrets
-Excellent Tracking
-1-4 capability
-Illumination

This filled what I wanted in an optic:

Illumination
Zoom
adjustable turrets

The only thing about it is the weight with the Bobro mount. 24oz. 1.5lbs!

Scope: 16.2oz
Bobro Mount: 7.5oz
Both on my scale: 24oz exactly

Any gun I put it on, it's then a heavy gun, even my Airsoft M4.

Do you guys think that the future of 1-4/1-6 scopes will be lighter?

Switch out your mount to the Aero Precision ultralight (3.9oz). It makes a difference.

I was thinking about that. I will save 3.6oz.

I am selling my OD Green ACS-L for a CTR to save 3.8oz. I will try to see if that will cut it.

I went from Piston to DI to save about a pound hehe. Lighter rail, low mass carrier, 1oz buffer, 1.3oz gas block.

Running around at airsoft operations really opens up my eyes about weight. I used to be a weekend range kind of guy but weight is a big thing to me now.

Also, if you're throwing 1-6x in there, it's only going to get heavier, although I'm impressed PA was able to get their 1-6x down to 17oz.
I think Leupold makes the lightest scopes on the market but I've never liked their reticles  or illumination.
The Trijicon TR24 is pretty damn light at 14oz.

My Razor 1-6x and my just purchased SWFA 1-6x scopes weigh 32 ounces and 29 ounces with Bobro mount approximately..

These made my rifle way quite significant. I shaved off almost an entire pound just by changing my rail to a BCM – KMR 13 inch rail and switching out my Magpul STR stock for a MFT minimalist stock.

This made quite a difference in the heavy feel of the rifle with those optics on. This is the one reason I also sold the Razor 1-6x and replaced it with the SWFA to take 3 more oz's off of the rifle.

I will say that it is still quite a bit more heavy then if it were to of had a red dot system on. It definitely does make it a lot more manageable though since I shaved off almost a pound.

I do have an Aimpoint M4s on my other rifle for when I really don't feel like dealing with that extra weight.

VX-R Patrol is 11.5 oz without mt. 18.1 oz with LaRue or 14.7 oz with a 3.27 oz mount from Aero Precision

The TR-24 would weigh in at 17.67 oz with the Aero mount

Either that or TA-33  11.64 with mount

Trijicon 1-4x with LaRue LT-104 = 22 oz exactly.  That is why I brought it plus the daylight visible triangle.

Don't even think of any 1-6x if you think your 1-4x is heavy.......

Your on the right track to a lighter carbine.

You were right about the Razor being pretty heavy. I really loved that scope, and it was so very hard to sell it, but the heavy weight of it was kind of a turn off.

I know you suggested it but I still don't want a Trijicon 1-4, just not my cup of tea, and am trying out a SWFA 1-6x. Now that I have had more magnification it has spoiled me. As far as I'm concerned the glass is right on par with the Razor.

+1 on Leupold for lightness.  I went with a VX-6 1-6x (13.40 oz) and an AP ultralight mount (3.27 oz) or 16.57 oz total.  I'm still waiting on the parts to arrive but my new build is going to come in 2lbs lighter than my first.  Once you try shooting a lightweight build you're going to want one.  The VX-R Patrol is lighter yet at 11.50 oz and considerably cheaper.

Nice.. That's .5lb lighter than my Vortex + Bobro.

I might save weight elsewhere as Leupold is out of my price range XD.

I'm thinking about a CTR or Minimalist stock. That's about the last place to save weight besides the scope/mount.

Barrel, and rails save the most weight.

Vortex 1-6 mil/mil is great but is heavy. Not heavy enough to keep me from running it though. Just lift and be a man.

I have a pst 1-4 MOA in a bobro and I know what you mean OP. It's a noticeable heft on top of the rifle (but you get used to it I guess)

I used my leupold vxr on my lr308 and carried that many a miles through some nasty woods. vxr ended up on my sbr and after carrying it on the 14lb mother fucker, the sbr feels like a broom handle compared. Its all about training and If you want to be able to carry around a 10lb gun with all the gadgets with ease, train with a 15lb gun.

Of course i say all this while sitting in my recliner in my underwear yelling at my wife for more hotpockets!

The Leupold Mark AR 1.5-4x20 with Firedot SPR reticle (true milrad turrents and milrad subtensions on the reticle) is only 9.6 ounces.  Put it in a fixed Aero mount (2.9 ounces) and the entire rig, ready to shoot is only 12.5 ounces.  Heck that is only one ounce more than an Aimpoint Pro.  And the Firedot is a for real advance.  Motion detection circuit means always ready and shut off when still for 5 minutes.   Very long,  I mean VERY long battery life.   I have a VX-R Patrol with that Firedot system and am going on two years on the original battery.   Yes, there is a manual off button for vehicle transport.  I prefer the extra couple ounces of the Patrol versions, (30mm tube thickness, primarily), but if saving weight is of major concern, the Mark AR is going to be very hard to beat.

Lol bro, I lift every day.

Here are pics of my setup:

AA Low mas Carrier
1oz Spikes Buffer
SLR Sentry 7 Gas Block
Voodoo 16" Fluted middy barrel
AAC Muzzle brake (SDN6 in February)
Magpul ACS-L
Troy HK BUIS (tritium)
Strike Industries 13" Gen 2 Keymod Rail

I am going to start by getting a CTR stock. Unless there is an OD Green Minimalist stock XD.

the SWFA 1-4 and 1-6 are good scopes. Both are first focal plane scopes so the reticle changes with the magnification.

Great start, but I suggest the MOE stock for an extra 1 oz weight savings, since from my experience the CTR still rattles.

As for the guy telling people to work out. I know plenty of strong guys who prefer light carbines, and there are professionals who prefer the same like Frank Proctor for example.

ETA: You could always paint your own Minimalist OD with Rustoleum camo.

OP, I'm telling you no BS! I knocked a pound off my rifle by just switching the rail and stock. BCM-KMR and MFT stock. I just recently knocked off 3 more OZ's switching optics also.
Juke is spot on!!!
I have painted those stocks before myself, and they came out great!! I use 3 light coats of the OD and top off with 3 light coats of the matte clear. It will not wear off!

I also lift and run 4 days a week.

Some of the biggest guys I work with can carry all kinds of heavy weight all day for a few minutes at a time but have no stamina, and they are also deathly afraid of bugs and getting dirty
