| I recently ordered a Palmetto state complete upper with a magpul moe foregrip and standard A frame front sight for my first AR build. This sight obscures my vision in the scope and i need to remove it. Initially I thought i could simply remove it and replace the sight with a low profile gas block. After removing the foregrip I realized that a low profile gas block is already in place and the foregrip extends past it by about 4 inches. The front sight is simply holding the foregrip in place. Is there some sort of part that i can use that will hold the foregrip in place but will not obscure my sight picture? |

With a magnified optic? Shouldn't be an issue. If a red dot, what height is it?
I am a fan of both the FSB and the flip up, but I always try to get guys to re-evaluate before they ditch the FSB. That said, cutting the FSB into a lopro gasblock is very easy, and leaves the most secure gas block you could ask for. You can then either install a longer handguard and a flip up sight ETA Reading is fundamental! You must have a dissy, please post pics. If so you can ditch that front FSB altogether |
| Ya I am still learning the names for everything im relatively new to building these, the optic i have is the vortex crossfire II 1x4 x24 and is mounted with a C & C Outdoor Products MNT-1516 High Profile AR-ArmourTac Rifle Scope Mount. I dont have a picture of my actual gun but this is the upper that i bought, http://palmettostatearmory.com/index.php/catalog/product/view/id/17498/category/4220/ |

If so you can ditch that front FSB altogether Until you said that I was thinking WTF is this guy talking about. Totally forgot the Dissy. OP, the reason people buy a Dissy is for the longer sight radius the FSB offers and they typically run them with irons only or occasionally I'll see one with a RedDotScope attached and the FSB as a co-witness. If you remove that FSB your going to need a rail that fully covers the two drilled FSB pins. That is unless you want them showing which would be Whoopi Goldberg ugly if you ask me... I'd try what Alaska said above first. A FSB shouldn't get in the way of your RDS... It's up to you though. I would just sell that upper and get one or better yet build one with a low pro front gas block that wasn't a DISSY... |

I would sell it if I were you. Your just getting started and probably don't want to build your own rifle. Get a Carbine or Mid-Length gas system upper with a Low Profile Gas Block and the rail of your choice already attached. Put whatever optic your trying to run or already have on the upper receiver and be done with it... |

If you simply dislike it, ditch it. Your front handguard is most likely free float and as such does not require latching onto the front sight. Okay I read the rest of the topic and see you posted a link. Actually it is holding the handguard but it's easy to get a new free float handguard or get what I shown you below which will allow you to fold the sight. Now if you want to have a flip sight but also like your current sight from time to time, I recommend this: http://www.brownells.com/rifle-parts/sights/front-sights/ar-12-m16-41-bl-silhouette-folding-front-sight-prod26728.aspx Otherwise, just ditch it and don't have any sort of buis. |
