I've just installed a (Primary Arms) red dot on my ar15 and I'm in the market for a decent set of BUIS. I've got a buddy that has the Magpul MBUS front and rear flip-up sights and I had no problems using those. I am leaning toward metal, though, as the MBUS would be the only polymer addition to the rifle. The MBUS pro are a little too pricy (around the same amount I paid for the red dot  ) so I was wondering about some of the other products I've seen on Brownells and CTD, etc. One in particular was:
http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/product/ARR-2514 The reviews seem good, but I've never heard of the brand, etc. I've heard a lot about the Troy Industries models like: http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/product/3-1028904 but that puts me in the same price range as the MBUS Pro. I would be willing to spend up to $50-60. Should I just suck it up and get the MBUS or do you wonderful people have better ideas. I would like to have the dual aperture and as I said before, metal would be nice. Thank you in advance! Edit: Also, my retired Marine uncle says he used: http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/product/2-MATBUIS and they were great. Once again, very pricy though, not dual aperture, and it may be overkill as I very rarely shoot more than 300 meters. If you all agree that this is what I should go with I will probably shell out the extra $$ for one of these. |

The MBUS Pros are awesome -- about as low profile as possible, and really good looking. They are now my first choice for BUIS. The polymer MBUS are outstanding BUIS and survive abuse better than most others. Just don't get the airsoft ones. If I were on a budget they would be my first choice.

Awesome sights and definitely my go to for BUIS. I got mine for $125 on sale from DSG Arms..since I bought them not all that long ago Ive seen them on sale again at least once at DSG and a couple of times at other places. Keep looking for a sale at pick up a set. You won't be disappointed! |

| Just to throw this in to compete with the magpul pros, the diamondhead polymers are amazing. Just bought a second new pair for 85 shipped from someone on EE with a few sets left. While polymer, aperture is metal, tool less adjustment, and I love the sight picture. The glow paint is far from tritium, but better than nothing. |
| If it's a range toy, BUIS aren't as important or even needed. However, if you think there's even a remote chance you might depend on this rifle to save your ass some day, don't skimp out on ANY component. Especially a BUIS. There are great options out there that you don't have to sell a kidney to acquire, and plenty of information out there about them. I have no reservations about dropping $300 bills on a set of quality BUIS, because I know there's a 99.9% chance it will work and function when I need it to. Good luck and Godspeed. |

If you want to look at another metal set look at LWRC skirmish sights Make sure you got the real deal Magpul sights if you bought them off Amazon...especially if you got them at a price that may seem too good to be true. I no longer buy any gun parts off if Amazon myself. There are way too many fakes mixed in with the real deals and honestly some of the imitations look so good it's extremely hard to tell them apart. A great example of this is the knock-off Raptor charging handles. Even with them right next to each other it's very hard to tell which is the real product. While visually they may look identical, often they are made from inferior materials and tolerances are sloppy. I'd rather pay a few bucks more and buy from a dealer that I know for a fact has the authentic item. |
| I don't see much in the way of budget BUIS unless you want to go with Magpul originals. All the metal ones I know of run about the same for Troy, MI, LaRue etc. The cheap metal ones aren't worth owning. They break easily and are just not solid when deployed. I recommend going Magpul for savings or just get a set of Troys for quality. I have used both and either would be a fine choice. |
