Anyone ever use it? I was looking at the #40L as well. Opinions on them? Yes I know blah blah blah everyone hates ARMS.  I'll ask for a lock if that comes up so just opinions on those sights or maybe something you believe is better and why (I'm still looking for something around the same price point so please keep that in mind). Thanks.

I have one and it works fine for me. There are many more options now then there was when I bought mine.

I have the ARMS 40 on my Mk12 mod 0 clone and it is a fine sight. Nothing wrong with it at all.

I use it with the PRI front sight when shooting with the irons.

I have three sets of ARMS 40L.  They are great sights.  Ignore the haters.

Have you guys used the top notches for distance shooting before? I'm curious as to how they worked for you guys.

For me it cluttered the view through the aperture and I replaced both of mine with a standard aperture piece.

I use the 40L-P (.50 MOA) and 40L-F (16.5" sight radius). I chose them based on their design and features instead of on internet tantrums. Some of the features that I like are how they incorporate a tethered stainless nut, remain locked or deploy via spring tension, and notched apertures for close quarters. Also, that the #40L holds a contract with Crane Naval Surface Warfare Center for SOF as part of the SOPMOD Program.

As for the notched apertures, pages 13 and 15 of the operators manual it explains the notches are used for close quarters and as a means for ranging targets from 400m - 600m. I too initially thought they were for long distance shooting until I saw where it mentioned ranging, and also the diagram showing where the 3 silhouettes at the respective ranges will be in relation to the sight's notch.
