I need a mount for my ar. I'm currently eyeballing the midway stoner mount http://www.midwayusa.com/product/2228288312/ar-stoner-1-piece-extended-scope-mount-picatinny-style-with-integral-rings-flat-top-ar-15-matte but it has a height of .85" instead of the usual 1" is that a dealbreaker?
if not that mount, what else? these guys? http://www.amazon.com/Nikon-835-P-Series-Mount/dp/B00B5F02ZW/ref=pd_sim_sg_7?ie=UTF8&refRID=0Z1BKRAW1Y5YFTEDDS0K my scope doesn't need to be mounted very far forward of the receiver, so I don't need a huge cantelever mount. I am open to suggestions, but I want to keep the mount as light and sleek as possible, with a budget of $60 max. Please do not suggest anything QD or over $60. I know american defense and larue etc all make killer mounts. I don't need killer. I don't want to pay for killer. My last mount was an ebay mount that is still going strong. I'm building a gun for my brother in college and thought I might do a little better than china and ebay this time around. |

I know you said nothing over $60, but Aero Precision's original Ultralights are excellent mounts, and they are on sale for $72.25. They offer 1" and 30mm models: http://aeroprecisionusa.com/scope-mount.html Good luck. ETA: hot link |
| aww man, I wish I had seen that. I really like the AP mounts. I could have sold something I guess to come up to 72. Last I checked they had been sitting at 85, which was just too much. I went ahead and ordered the stoner this morning. hopefully the slightly lower height won't be an issue. |

I'm a bit confused about the specs on that mount. The link indeed shows height to be .875", but from what reference point to what reference point? Actually the standard height to match AR stocks is measured differently. It is 1.5" from the centerline of the scope to the top of the Picatinny rail. That is standard. How the "standard" 1" height mentioned in OP's first post is calculated or how this mount compares to it is unknown to me. It may work fine. I'm just not familiar with that mouth nor do I know where the .875" or 1" references come from.
If this does not work out and you are allowed to return it, the only other mount(s) in your price range that would clearly be the proper height are the two piece cantilevered Nikon P mounts at $49 for the pair. They appear to be out of stock at Midway USA, however. There are other vendors. |

I did wait. Almost 17 hours and got 1 reply. I'm just not patient I guess. And I was on a time crunch to get parts ordered due to reasons.
:) as to where the .85" comes from, I believe it is from the top of the picatinny rail to the bottom of the scope tube. plus another half inch to get to the centerline of the scope, giving 1.35" to centerline instead of the typical 1.5" Hopefully it won't matter. If it does, I'll return it and get something else. |
| SWFA has the SSALT mount (rebadged burris). there is also deals all the time on the EE. patience is a good thing to practice when it comes to firearms and parts. I hope it works out for you but I'm pretty sure that "AR-Stoner" parts are midway's bottom barrel house brand stuff, and it's usually not recommended. |

My cheapo mounts are Burris PEPR and the SWFA SSALT. The bolt on kind. I don't have much faith in cheap QD mounts YMMV. They work great especially if the scope is married to a particular upper for long periods of time. |
