| Just got a new Aimpoint for my AR and I have a fixed front iron sight. When I looked through my newly mounted optic there I see my iron sight front and center. Now I'm obviously new and I've read some stuff about co-witness etc but I'm just learning. My question is...would it be bad to remove the fixed front sight so that I have a clear view through my optic? Is it a big deal to remove a fixed sight? |

Thank you all for that. Very helpful. So does 1/3 co-witness mean I'm seeing the front site in the bottom third of my optic? Quoted:

And why would that be ideal? What is the advantage? Less stuff blocking your field of view. And for some people, having it that high makes a more comfortable cheek weld. Shoot with both eyes open and focus on the target though (like you should with a red dot), and the front sight won't be noticeable. |
