Ok, so I'm building a suppressed 300blk SBR. I'm now in the stage of looking at optics, I have a few months to come up with a decision...so I might as well start now!

While I absolutely LOVE and want my ACOG that I used in the Corps, I don't quite think a 4x ACOG is necessarily a great idea on an SBR. So, I'm looking for a RDS.

I'm looking at either Aimpoint H1 (Pro?), EOTech (300blk or XPS?), or the Trijicon SRS primarily. I've looked up some reviews already and honestly it seems like people either love or hate "x" brand and there's no in-between.

Aimpoint: Specifically the H1, I like the fact that it's super light weight, great battery life, "average" price-point, and apparently very good. What I don't like is the aesthetics, specially the tiny RDS on an ugly solid-mount that sits up pretty high.

EOTech: I've always heard great things about the EOTech's, I would be looking at one of the smaller versions, or maybe the new 300blk version. I'm not a huge fan of the retical, I think I would rather have just the "dot." I've shot an EOTech before, but it's been a while. I believe the optics are more "blurry/fuzzy" than the Aimpoints, is that correct?

Trijicon: No experience with Trijicon other than the ACOG I had in the Corps, but man I absolutely LOVED that thing. Crystal clear lens, loved the red chevron retical, and the 4x was great. Only issue was the eye-relief, obviously being more like a scope. The SRS is relatively new and I can't seem to find many reviews about it. It's significantly larger than the Aimpoint H1 and almost a pound vs. 3oz. The good news is that the 38mm front lens is massive and people seem to rave about the FOV. I have heard some issues with reflection on the glass and people having some quality control problems with them. And of course being Trijicon, the price is pretty high compared to the other options.

What do you guys think? I'm basically looking for a good RDS for close-mid range, I want a ~2 MOA dot (red), I don't care about NVG capability or anything super fancy. Obviously the cheaper the better, but I can't swallow the ~$900 price tag on the Trijicon. At that point, I would just grab an ACOG instead.

Thoughts? I'm open to other suggestions, but I would like to stay with one of these brands. Also, please just don't post "I like Aimpoint EOTech sucks." That's not useful...

In my experience, any of them will start to 'bloom' like that if the brightness is too high in relation to your surroundings.

Try to get your hands on all of them
And check them out. I have used all
Except the trijicon.
Aimpoint pro is the best for money
I prefer the t1 or h1 in your case because of the
Weight savings and it obstructs your field of view less.
Eotech is to busy for my eyes
The h1 may look ugly at first but it will grow on you.
Companies make mounts that are not just a block
If that bothers you.

The eotechs are blurry for me.  I can see each dot that makes up the outer ring.
all of your options will bloom if you stare/focus at them ( for my eyes ) . But if you focus on target you won't notice
It as much.

I'm not an Eotech fan. I've had every style of Aimpoint, still have 3 micros.
I have 2 SRS02's.  My favorite is the SRS02. I bought all my SRS's lightly used from 650-700.

After shooting with an Eotech I am really starting to like its reticle, and it only looks fuzzy in low light but once you get outside it looks as good as Aimpoints.

I don't understand how you don't like the look of the T1/H1, I think they are one of the best looking red dots mounted. I would definitely go with a T1/H1 if money isn't an issue. If your on more of a tighter budget get the PRO. Anything aimpoint will have great battery life, durable, and well made.

There are no bad choices on your list.

Did you take a look at the smaller ACOGS?

Trijicon TA-33H-13? It's the smaller 3x trijicon and the 7.62x39 drop should be spot on with supersonic 300 BO

There's also the TA-44 mini acog... 1.5x zoom, 2 MOA dot and 20 MOA circle.

A poll?  Gee, I didn't know it came down to popularity/beauty contest.  Just kidding.

I appreciate the explanation, and that will be helpful

How short is the barrel on the rifle and its total weight?

All the choices are good, If I wanted to go small and light, I'd give some thought to adding something very small and light to the  list.  Maybve even something used on pistols or as a secondary optic on top of a scope, such as the new Leupold Delta Point 2. Quite an upgrade over the original Delta Point.

It has crystal clear glass, motion detection on-off, automatic illumination with manual over-ride, and now with a true "off" button" and weighs next to nothing.  I think it is only a fraction of an ounce.  It also looks like they have made it more rugged and moved the battery so that it can be changed without removing it from the rifle rail.   I held back on this because of that, but am giving it a serious consideration, now.  I don't know if they will show up in stores until June.  This in an improved version of the RDS that comes with the Leupold  Mark 4 HAMR.

If what you are trying to achieve is solely a 2moa dot, then a RDS that offers the least sight picture clutter would be your best bet, in this case the H1. I use Eotechs and find the sight picture too busy, grainy, and I don't like the bulk of the sight body. My actual preference is a MRDS like the Docter, but it's a 3.5moa dot. However, the shroud has a thin, but tough cross section that almost blurs to nothing when mounted well back on the receiver. This essentially leaves just a dot floating in front of your sighting eye which I find very fast and easy to acquire. The downside is that they are more vulnerable to rain than tube types like the H1, so if you may shoot in rainy conditions then I would go for the H1.

Thanks everyone for the input!

I didn't go out of my way to do it, but I got to fondle the H1, PRO, and SRS tonight. I will say that the SRS looks absolutely awesome, but it's (obviously) noticeably heavier than the other two. That said, the FOV was SO much bigger/better, it was incredible! The red-dot was clear and crisp, everything looked great on it. The H1 was a very nice looking unit, I really like the small compact size and 3oz weight. The FOV is pretty small, which upset me a bit for being that pricey. All things considered though, I think the H1 will suit my needs pretty well, I do kind of wish I could get the SRS though. I just can't get over that FOV.

I didn't really care for the PRO that much vs. the H1, I would prefer the H1. And no, I did not look into the smaller Trijicon sights, I will do that though.

For those that asked, the rifle in question is an 8.2" Noveske in 300blk that's going to be suppressed with a Saker.

FOV is not an issue once you focus on your target and not the dot.

Had an Eotech, liked it, did not love it.  I love my Aimpoint PRO right now.  Especially at around the $350 mark.

I have seen a bunch on the EE for the $350 mark.  And they can be had new at Midway right now for $370 with their $45 off coupon and free shipping.
