Eotech EXPS2 purchased end of 2011. Lightly used.
Sent in Jan of 2013 because the reticle was dim in certain points on the glass. Fixed under warranty.
Just sent in another RMA request for the exact same problem. So the repair has lasted less than a year.

My brother has same sight, purchased early Dec 2012. His has the same problem.
My brother-in-law has an Eotech also, not an EXPS2 (not sure exactly). Same problem.

W T F.

Edit: Vid of issue http://s893.photobucket.com/user/tonesurfer/library/Eotech

Edit: Also to be fair to Eotech, they responded immediately to my RMA and looks like I'm getting a replacement instead of repair this time.

I have an exps2 and the reticle is perfectly fine. Have you owned any other eotechs?  You're sure it's not just the "dancing" that every red laser light does?

I have 3 EOTechs: 553, XPS2-0, and EXPS3-0. The XPS2-0 had this problem after about 2 years. EOTech fixed it and I had it back in about a week. The 2 other ones have not had this problem.

I put in my RMA request last night. By this morning I had a reply from Eotech. They indicate that they are going to replace my sight this time. Fingers crossed I get a good one now.

Hope the rest of my family gets treated the same way.

+1 for quick response and standing behind their product.
-1 that it happened in the first place.

I had an Aimpoint Pro at one time. I found the dot too dim in bright conditions. I really prefer the Eotech reticle over a single dot (when I can see it )

r u srs?

It's hard to get a camera to focus on the reticle, hence it looks like a blurry ball of fire. But the blurry ball of fire should be equally viewable at all positions in the glass. It should not be fading in and out along the the edges. It should be consistent throughout. Can you not see the banding effect on the left side where the reticle goes dim as it crosses the band and then gets bright again? With my mount and iron sights it is set to a lower 1/3 cowitness with the irons. The reticle disappears at the bottom of the glass making it invisible when viewing using the irons. Another proof of a problem.

That's what the EOTech reticle does when it gets close to the edge. It starts to "fade out". Specifically the bottom, It'll disappear before the reticle is at the outer most edge of the glass. All EOTechs are like that. Is that what you're trying to show in the video?

Nope. I just held mine up and it isn't doing what the op's video shows. Sucks that the OP got a bad Eotech but my 512 and xps3 have been awesome. The 512 is over 6 years old with thousands of rounds through it.

It is not supposed to fade at all, anywhere on the screen.
It is supposed to stay at the set brightness and fall off the screen like a sunset over the horizon.

I sent mine back because it would dim as it got within 1/4 inch of any edge of the screen.
The reticle would be 2 different levels of brightness as it passed thru this region around the screen.

I thought you said it looked like nothing is wrong in the movie.

Compare the movie to the photos posted.

In the movie the reticle is fading out well before it crosses the edge of the black site housing.
In the pictures you can see that the reticle is bright even as it crosses the edges.

So, no, I don't think he was confirming what you said.

Honestly I can't really see any dimming or fading out or w.e you want to call it. If that's what the video is about then ya the optic is busted. I should had just said it only shows part of the reticle and not used faded in quotes. If that's the confusion. I thought the OP was about the reticle beginning to disappear before it got to the very bottom edge of the lens.

As a long time aimpoint guy who recently got my first eotech(exps3) I will agree, awesome reticle/optic, hope I don't have issues.

The video clearly shows that the reticle is dimming or fading long before it gets near any edge of the screen.

Other posts have reported this issue before, it is not a new thing.
It is usually repaired by a purge of the optic with new nitrogen gas, as they claim it has leaked out.

uhhhh no. Did you even watch the fucking video?

OP- Are you sure this is a legit EoTech? That reticle looks gigantic in the video....real EoTech reticle should look a lot smaller.

edit- The reticle should appear to be the same size regardless of the distance the eotech is from your eye. So up close like in your picture, it should appear relatively small compared to the sight window, but as you move the eotech farther away (relative to your eye) the reticle should grow larger and larger in relation to eotech sight window.

Since the OP has had the sight repaired by the factory once already it is very unlikely that it is a fake.

Yes, its definately a real Eotech. Purchased from Primary Arms in 2011. It's been back to Eotech for repairs once already (last January, 2013), this will be its second trip. My brother is also returning his, doing exactly the same thing.

The big blooming reticle in the movie can only be blamed on my poor camera skills. I just turned it on and started filming. Probably should have dimmed it down some. I filmed if from the end of the stock, had trouble getting the reticle to show up, but I used the zoom on the camera (iPhone 5) to get up close. That probably didn't help.

Or, because it's there, and they have a million of them to replace ones that take a shit.  Which, talking to the HSLD guys here and elsewhere, is somewhat common.

Just watched the vid.
WOW that thing is FUCKED UP.

Relevant trouble shooting data.

Streak in Reticle, Reticle is Dim, or Reticle Fades in Parts of the Window

  1. Replace the batteries.

  2. Check with others who have used the sight and compare what you see, to ensure the issue is not with your focal acuity.

  3. Visit the HWS Repair page of the website for factory repair instructions.

In OP's video I saw all three,  Streak and dim to the left, dim and fade to the lower right...
