I had a friend loan me a Matech rear sight as I was going to choose to get one of them, or a KAC rear.

I'm leaning towards the KAC rear mainly because this Matech rear sight does not like to stay down.  Anytime I charge my rifle, it likes to pop right up.

The main thing I like about the Matech sights is the price, as I will be needing 2.

But in the end, if this is going to be a common occurance, I will likely spend the doh and go KAC.

Is there a question in there? I don't see how you're deploying the sight when pulling the CH? Maybe hitting the elevation knob but not deploying the sight. Maybe the detents are super worn? Mine takes a fair bit of pressure to pop up.

Got so carried away explaining the issue, forgot to ask the question.

I was wondering if it was common for them to pop up just from the force of the BCG slamming home after charging it.

It takes quite a bit of pressure to pop up manually, and no I'm not hitting it when pulling and releasing the charging handle.

The tab that keeps the sight down wears out over time... It's a design in need of improving. One of mine deploys when I fire the rifle so I just leave it up. If I kept trying to keep it down, I'm sure it would wear to the point of flipping up under any shock (such as charging the rifle).

Very common.  Matechs are garbage for anything approaching hard use.

Ok so next question would be, how many times does it take to flip up before it gets worn out?  Thousands?  Or is this just something that wears out pretty quickly?

Yeah I know, that's why I asked if the detents (tabs) whatever they are might be really worn. I think if you plan to actually use it as a BUIS it wouldn't be a problem, if you use it as a primary like me I just keep it up.

Well, guess I'll be going KAC.
I've got the P/N 99051 taupe front sights, but can't decide on the micro rears, or the standard 200-600 rear.

I am a fan of the micro rear, but they are more expensive than the standard 200-600 rear

Seem to work fine on my issued m4. I havent had a problem with the one I had before I broke it and the new one. But I do see it wearing out over time if you flip it up and down alot. But I think it would have to be alot of flips.

FYI I broke it falling off a MATV. Thats a story for another day though.

I've seen way too many broken ones on issued M4s.  Mine was stuck in the down position, kind of defeated the purpose of even having it.  Too many to count that wouldn't stay down at all.

I use a rubber band to keep my matech down.  It was about $20 for it, so I got what I paid for.....

I also keep spare rubber bands in my grip in case the one on the sight breaks....

I do have the KAC rear sight on my KAC upper, but it came with it and I dont think Id ever spend that much on a KAC sight alone....

I didn't want to get this as truly a primary, BUT I did want one so I could play around with ironsight shooting
since I never do that.

After handling the SP1 I bought a few days ago for my dad, it has inspired me to learn iron sights.

I probably should have learned irons before I got an optic.

I have seen the cross pin on the sight drift a little bit and that does shift pressure so that the tab doesn't retain the sight properly, but that is an easy fix.

So far, I haven't worn either one of mine out to the point where they won't stay down under normal use

And like having em on rifles with an ACOG. Not like they ever get zeroed anywho.

OP. If it dont meet YOUR standards then replace it.
