With a world of choices, trying to decide on what optics. I really want something for being on at no more than a 100 yards. With liquid or red dot or green dot , options with  using iron sights, I'm confused, what a surprise. Don't have a bunch of money, but maybe a direction to get used to then maybe upgrade later at some point.thanks

Practice with irons while you save for an Aimpoint.

If doing so , then choosing between flip down or fixed. Benefits in going one way or the other? I hate being so ignorant about this.

I prefer a folding rear and fixed front. I've used this combo with up to a 4x ACOG. When transitioning from optic to irons, a folding front sight slows you down. You don't notice the front after a bit when shooting with magnification. It's beneficial when shooting with an Aimpoint when you co-witness, IMHO.

Definitely save for an Aimpoint. Watch the EE here. Don't waste your money on something cheap.

I prefer a folding rear BUIS because I sometimes mount a Nikon ProStaff and couldn't do it with a fixed rear.

Search for deals on an Aimpoint PRO. You can find them new for a lot less than the usual $408 or so if you're patient and search. I get a perfect lower 1/3 co-witness with mine. The dot sits right on top of my front post.

This is an unpopular opinion... but one we share.
I prefer fixed FSBs with folding rear sights. Kac 2-6 micros on everything, screw troy. Then your best bet is to make some friends with aimpoints/acogs/eotechs and go shoot with them, shoot with the optics and see which appeals to YOU best.

you'll never get the correct answer to a preference question from a bunch of people on the internet that don't know you.

Do you have the AR yet?  If so, I assume from your posts that it does not have a barrel-mounted fixed or folding front sight.  Is that correct?  If so, I'd invest in good flip-up front and rear iron sights.  Troy, KAC and others make good ones.  FWIW, I like PRI's front flip-up a lot because the front sight is fully shrouded (full circle around post), and the. KAC 200-600m rear flip-up, which is adjustable for both windage and elevation.  As noted above, however, personal preference is a huge variable.

I do, I have a couple. Picked up an M400 last year in which I have a nikon 1 piece 223 mount and an old 2x-7x Redfield. I do enjoy shooting this rifle. And your right, lot's of opinion's here and elsewhere on the internet. I found an Oracle a while back for a really good price. I'm sure you know, it comes with no sights. I bought this for my daughter because she became interested in going with me to fire. Didn't have to go far, in my backyard. I've hunted all my life up til a few years ago, health not that great, but anyway still learning about the AR . I have a few bolt action rifles all scoped but that's a whole different ball of wax. I'm fine shooting with iron sights and I felt it would be better for my daughter , she's 17.  lot's of options. Seems that through here and archives it'll prob be the KAC's or DD's. I can get a set of DD's around a $100 and be happy with that until I want to upgrade. Appreciate the help.
