| Assisting one of my friends with putting together a budget build. Last week I was able to pick up a KAC BUIS from ebay for an incredibly low price. Thinking I'd be able to get them whenever, I turned it and sold it to another buddy for a small profit. Now, I'm wishing I'd have hung onto it for this build. Only have about $100 to allocate for BUIS and he doesn't want MBUS. Think if I'm patient KACs will pop up at $30 again? Paired with a mbus pro front sight would fit the bill. Any other quality sights I can get for $100? |
|
The stolen KAC sights are still on eBay for $33.
Otherwise, save up money or buy some airsoft crap. Too many people want to do "budget" builds. All that means is they don't actually have the money to build a quality rifle, so they will buy cheap shit and then wonder why their rifle malfunctions or doesn't piece together correctly. "You get what you pay for" |
| Troys can be found in the EE for pretty cheap. KAC has stated that they haven't sold any USMC marked sites to the public, so based on that, any ones you buy have first been sold to the Gov., whether or not they are stolen or ethically obtained(given away) is another matter that many debate. |

| The assumption that USCM KAC micro sights are stolen is the biggest myth on AR15.com. Military surplus suppliers buy them in bulk during auctions, in addition to all sorts of other military equipment. I know this for a fact. Sure, someone could steal one off of a rifle after a tour and sell it online, but this is not what's happening here. Buy the eBay ones and don't look back. The KAC micro BUIS is the very best rear sight at any price period. I used to be a Troy fanboy, but no more fragile aluminum sights for me. Any slight bump cants them and loses zero. There's a reason why no combat unit uses aluminum sights. KAC micro, or Magpul MBUS for the win! |

What's a good budget front sight to pair with the used/surplus KAC micro rear?
They seem to be for M4's that still have their front sight tower/gasblock because all the front KAC sights are either Chinese/Airsoft, or $170 and new, but obviously that's not what I'm trying to make in my "budget build".

Okay, being that the KAC sights are in the middle of a giant gray area (and that I can't find any NIP ones like I had), I'm going to pass on those. Next up is Matech, does the same stolen government property shadow follow them as well? no, because Matechs are available at numerous vendors online, including reputable companies such as Brownell's. As for the USMC marked, I have a feeling they're legally out there as well. recently a EE vendor had numerous ones to sell - something like > 50. You think he pilfered all those? |

The sights were never intended for sale to the public. If you don't believe me, look and see that sale of these sights is banned in the EE, and KAC is very actively pursuing action against sellers. |

| First of all, who cares what KAC says? They're interested in selling you a $160 "CONSUMER" version. Second, I can go ahead and legally buy NOT stolen Humvees, tanks, helicopters, and fighter jets. Used, new, decommissioned, auction sold, gifted, etc. From the Army, the Navy, the Special Forces, the collector, the eBay, Uncle Sam, and anyone else who feels like getting rid of some junk. So who the hell cares about a $5 sight? There are stockpiles of these things. Some unit could have ordered a batch and decided not to use them. Or decided to use a different sight. Or received rifles which already had pre-installed sights. Etc., etc., etc. This superfluous stuff gets auctioned off legally and sold to you by military surplus retailers. You guys need to stop spreading this baloney nonsense. |
Are USMC marked 600m backup iron sights stolen?Yes, They are stolen government property Knights Armament has publicly stated that sights marked USMC were never sold in the civilian market. ...they are still under contract, they are still being bought under that contract, and none should be leaving government possession under any circumstance. If someone bought them from DRMO(as unlikely as it is) it was an error on behalf of the unit and DRMO. These sights were bought with taxpayer money, specifically for use by personnel assigned to USMC units. We do not sell these sights except for USMC contracts. There were no "over-runs" that were released to the commercial market. Every sight that is re-sold on the commercial market is stealing from the Marine Corps, stealing from the Government, and stealing from you the tax-payer. Regardless of the seller's understanding of how they got to them, these should NOT be in their possession, and ARE illegally acquired government property. - Jack_L Stolen sights are easily identified:

That would match the height? So the KAC used micros floating on eBay aren't for "F-height" front towers. Quoted:

Get yourself a Magpul MBUS, or pro. That would match the height? So the KAC used micros floating on eBay aren't for "F-height" front towers. You replace the front sight post with one .04 inches taller. |

an error and stolen are not the same thing. This is speculation on there part, it seems like an attempt on the part of KAC to keep prices high and it's working. |

| I was in the same situation when I was building my rifle, I already had a optic and knew I would hardly ever use buis. So searching the Internet I found a set of replica troy buis and for $30 for both front and rear I took the chance and ordered them. I was very surprised at the quality of them, it's almost impossible to tell the difference from the real ones. |
