I've had a couple of ACOG TA31F's over the years and the reticle always looked like this.

Now, I just bought a new one and the reticle looks like this.

Can anyone tell me why Trijicon changed it?

Set up for a different caliber of rifle.

I thought all TA31F's were for the 5.56 AR-15 with a 16" barrel.

I believe they changed (improved?) the fiber optic illumination system in the TA31 series of ACOGs about 6 months ago.  The new fiber optic is supposed to be stronger and also less prone to "blooming" under strong light.

ACOG reticles can  come setup for different calibers and rifle configurations.  Usually they are setup for 5.56mm but I believe you can also get 7.62x51 (.308Win) and 300 AAC Blackout, depending on the ACOG model.
