Hi everyone. Just purchased my first ar 2 weeks ago b4 they are banned in Maryland on October 1st. I just mounted a red dot onto it. Turned it on and I expected to see a nice crisp dot. Instead it looks kinda like a star burst. It is dark outside right now. Since this is my first red dot maybe that is the problem. Is this normal or should I return it. Thanks

How bright is it? Try turning it down a few clicks. FWIW my dot isn't as crisp as i like it but it gets the job done.

I had it turned all the way down

I had a SPARC and liked it.  If you have turned it down all the way and still see that give them a call.  Their CS is top notch.

How many brightness settings do you have? The book says it has 10. I counted 5

Mine always look too bright in the house.......try it outside in natural light and I bet you will be fine.

I upgraded (?) from the Strikefire to the SPARC. I like it.

I would have other look through the optic and see if they have the same issue. It could be the optic although its also possible that you have some slight eye problems that you weren't aware of. Many folks with astigmatism ect. have the exact same problem with red dots. Good luck!

I ended up selling my SPARC due to my astigmatism that I didn't even know I had until I looked through the sight. The easy way to tell if it is your eyes or the sight is to rotate the sight while looking through it. If the irregularities with the dot rotate with the sight, it's a problem with he sight. If the irregularities stay in the same position it is your eyes.

This, if you have an astigmatism you won't see it "correctly". Take a pic with a camera.

I just sold a sparc, The dot is not as crisp as the other rds's I own, (it kind of reminds me of a photon torpedo off an old star trek movie) but I guess it's not horrible. The main reasons I didn't really care for it.

1) the dot is way too bright on the lowest setting

2) The oddball battery it uses

3)The battery life is really bad

4)The location of the switches....wtf were they thinking?

If Vortex corrected those issues, it wouldn't be that bad of an rds.

I have pics comparing the dots of the sparc I just sold, to the strikefire I also just sold.

I also like the teathered (sp?) caps for the adjustments.

Just my $0.02

1) the dot is way too bright on the lowest setting - The brightness of this sight is why I picked it over othersif you ever do any night shooting, you'll find out what I mean

2) The oddball battery it uses - WalmartYou must have a better walmart then we do, i've never seen that battery in a store

3)The battery life is really bad - On low setting the life is 3,400 hours.....that doesn't seem too bad to me.I've had to replace 2 in two years....not to good for a safe queen, I guess it could be the batteries

4)The location of the switches....wtf were they thinking? - This is one of the reasons that I like the SPARCThe brightness and nvg settings are fine, I was refering to the on/off switch, that constantly get bumped and turned on.

These problems may not be a problem for you, but they were an annoyance to me.

I do not shoot at night, so very good point.

I did like my Strikefire sights too, but decided I like these as they are more compact.

What I don't like (...and I have to learn to get past this) is that it is not a full circle of clear view with the little area that projects the dot. I need to remind myself that I need to always shoot both eyes open and this won't be an issue.

I don't know what version of Stikefire you owned, but I had the red only version, which is much brighter then the red/green version, but not as bright on the lowest setting as the sparc on it's lowest setting. I personally like my Bushnell trs 25 better then the sparc, it has much more usable brightness settings, crisper dot, better battery life, more compact, cheaper, better switch, more common battery...etc.

3)The battery life is really bad - On low setting the life is 3,400 hours.....that doesn't seem too bad to me. - The SPARC has the worst battery life compared to the Aimpoint T1/H1 & Burris TR-25

4)The location of the switches....wtf were they thinking? - This is one of the reasons that I like the SPARC - Totally agree, the controls are located badly and that rubber covering is just asking for trouble.

If Vortex corrected those issues, it wouldn't be that bad of an rds.

Also, the SPARC reacts in about the MOST STUPID way when the battery gets low.  It refuses to turn off & thereby accelerates the death of the battery.

Offer me your gently used SPARC sights and a generous price and I can take them off you hands

Problems solved!

I had that same problem. The first time it happened I called Vortex thinking the switch broke, and the rep told me to try a new battery before I sent it in. I changed the battery and that fixed the issue, until that battery was drained enough to bring back the same issue.
I don't have any exp. with the Burris, (and I know what the T1, R1, AND H1 are all about)  out of the three micro's I have owned (sparc, PA gen 3 micro, and the Bushnell trs 25)  In my opinion the Bushnell was the best bang for your buck micro. It would have been a harder choice between the Bushnell and the Primary Arms, If the PA was water proof.

Took it to the range today. Nice crisp dot. It was either to bright for conditions the night I mounted it or slight astigmatism. Not sure what one it was cause I was wearing my glasses today and not the other night.

Great red dot. Love the size of the dot.
