Ok so I purchased an Aimpoint Pro from a reputable dealer but have a few questions.  The switch has 10 positions like you would expect but the dot doesn't get very bright until the last 3 settings.  In fact the last setting is so bright it kind of lights up the entire inside of the sight.  It's like I have to struggle to see the light for the top 5 settings.  I realize there are supposed to be several night vision settings, but is it normal to seem to be a little dim until you bring it to the higher settings?

This is not an Aimpoint bash by any means because the sight appears to be well made.  I looked at the Aimpoint sight and it does not appear to be a counterfeit.  The package also looks like you tube videos from the SHOT show.  It seems my buddy's EOTECH has more readily visible brightness settings.

Is this normal for an Aimpoint PRO?

Is your question because you have to go through so many settings past "off?" It's designed to be left on all the time. I believe it's setting 7 that is supposed to give 3 years of battery life with continuous use.

how do you expect to be able to shoot at night if there are no dim settings?  can you use it?  can you see the dot outside?  then go shoot.  ambient light is never constant, hence the wide range of brightness settings.

It wasn't a question about the multiple settings, I've never used an Aimpoint before so maybe I expected more selections to be clearly visible.  I'll have to just give it a try on the rifle.

Thanks to everyone for their feedback,

The lower settings are for NVG use.  NVGs work by gathering much smaller amounts of light than our eye can normally pick up.  If you were wearing NVGs, the lower "invisible" settings show up just fine.

On my PROs, the dot is just barely visible at setting 4, or to be more technically correct, after turning the switch 4 clicks, which I guess is really setting 5.  I guess it depends on your vision, and the ambient light, whether or not you can see it at that same setting, but there is nothing wrong with your optic.  That is the way it was designed.

The same way we use different brightness settings during the day, there are different levels of darkness which effect NVGs and the reason there is a range of NVG settings.
